If they purchase EA I suspect all franchised games such as FIFA, star wars etc would have to remain multiplatform. But games like Titanfall, PVZ, Sims etc would become exclusive. Not sure they would purchase EA though.

I'm not actually too fussed who Microsoft buy, buy I hope Sony adds a few more developers as well. My concern would come if Amazon, Google or Apple purchase publishers or studios. There is no way I want cloud only exclusives.

Bethesda no long make good games apparently. At least that seems to be a common thought in the last week.

They can't buy Nintendo, they have too much money in the bank and would never sell. As for Pokemon, Nintendo items a larger chunk, so again never going to happen. I also don't think it should. If anything they should just setup their own studios and headhunt the best talent from Capcom, Konami, Platinum, Sega etc.

It was weird that's for sure. I expected at least an announcement on timed exclusives or games being developed in Japan. Without a few AAA Japanese studios they will always struggle in Japan. Not really much of an impact, unless the Japanese market embrace cloud gaming on their mobile phones.

Is NPD relevant with game pass in action? I always bought gears of war games until 5, I have game pass so no need to buy it. Many will be in the situation.

I'm surprised how few people have played Evil within or Prey.

1344d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Doom was a great game, Prey is also pretty good and if you like resident Evil type games Evil within was superb. It doesn't really change much for me, I own both and will continue to do so. What it does change is the value of game pass as I play a lot of Zenimax games.

I have ordered every console released at launch since the N64 and this was definitely the hardest preorder. Typically they would release preorders, then prior to launch, release more stock. Usually this extra stock allocation would be done multiple times. I wonder with covid and the late preorders whether this will happen. Hopefully everyone that has preordered for a 2020 release still gets one. If covid ramps up over the next month anything could happen though.

Install times would most likely be determined by internet speeds or the disc drive. I believe UHD drivers have a speed up to 144Mbit/s. If so install times could potentially be the same on both consoles as it is determined by the max speed of the slowest component.

Do they really need to any more? Zenimax media is made up of 8 game studios. So with a single purchase they added 8 more studios to their company. 1 is based in Japan. If they buy more great, but they certainly have enough now with well over 20 studios. It's also possible they will simply create a new Microsoft branded studio in Japan, might help with brand recognition if they create Microsoft Games there.

He talks about Ghostwire and Deathloop, apparently they were only ever timed exclusives and will remain timed exclusives to honour the deal. Going forward each game will be treated on a case by case basis to decide whether they will be exclusive or appear on PlayStation/ Nintendo.

I think self publishing will lead Bethesda and MS to do a mix of exclusives and multi platform games. Hopefully games like elder scrolls or fallout release on both. But time will tell.

Not quite my understanding. From what I gather the cost of developing AAA games would mean that they would only need 1-2 to fail or massively underperform to bring the studio down. They were not at immediate risk of going bankrupt, more the future risks were increasing due to development costs. So they cashed out to mitigate the risks. The question now is what does sold publishing mean for their franchises. Will they have exclusives, timed exclusives or a mix of these.

Self publishing doesn't necessarily mean multiplatform. I suspect some will be, but other games will likely be exclusive. Truth is we don't really know.

I will buy both, but I think PS5 sales will eclipse Xbox. The only way things will change would be if MS announce multiple Japanese studio purchases at TGS and detail unannounced must have games for launch. This is highly unlikely, MS are still under delivering. Sony will dominate easily in my view.

I had the option to buy multiple consoles and decided against it. Having seen this article and ebay prices I should have purchased a handful of them. I could have sold them at cost as a good will gesture. In my opinion, with so many stuck at home or isolating due to covid, now is not the time for scalpers.

@Valkron1 yes, choice is amazing don't you agree.

"but neither platform holder offers a compelling reason to invest at launch." The simple response from the ps5 is to sell out all preorders worldwide until 2021, so I think the article is pointless.
