Most mainstream conventions are for a specific target demographic-- unmarried 20-40 year old straight white males. They don't do a good job of going outside that demo, in years, in sex, or in sexuality. (I'll assume in race as well, but I haven't particularly paid attention since I'm in the target demo for race.)

Look, it's not a harmless example when people in real life use it as a "good" reason for why gay marriage-- heck, homosexuality in general-- shouldn't be allowed (why not allow sex with a dog, or a child, ask some of the homophobic groups).

Comments like this are why I use voice modulation in games so people assume I'm 10, or just don't chat at all.
There's everything people have already said, but I further disagree that tech doesn't help with making people connect with characters, whether well-written or not.
Badly acted and badly written are on par. Acting includes things like facial details, body language animations, etc. that are entirely tech in video games. It's true that the best actor can't really make up for a badly written piece, but it's also true that bad acting has ruined otherwise watcha...
I don't think this is the real reason. I think the real issue is that since Silicon Knights made it, if they put TS in there, they'd have to pay out additional royalties.
