Ironically the SSD is the component that happens to be 100% faster on the PS5. Seems like like Sony were a step ahead of MS in predicting the course of game development evolution and made the correct bet on system design.
These comments coming from Windowscentral should hopefully convince some doubters that the SSD is a real game changer.
Microsoft will just confuse their market. Sony will start selling a 200$ PS4 that will still play 3rd party games for the next 4 years. Lockhart will be in limbo.
Star Citizen for PC is unplayable without an SSD.
somebody forgot to press the send button on April 1st :P
@timotim & @ElementX
Brahs! watch the other half of the clip.
@Kribwalker
texture quality is also dependent on SSD speed and data size, enabling more details worlds..

Actually we did see a demonstration of of PS5's SSD effect on gameplay months ago..

SSD speed determine the loading of data into the GPU, when you move in the game world the GPU swaps data from the SSD though the RAM, if that data swap isn't fast enough you will see pop-in, or worse a game freeze. Developers basically pace your movement throughout the game world based on the speed of this data swap. some of these methods of slowdown are small corridors, slow character movement, viewpoint blocking walls, limited number of enemies, slow opening doors ..etc. failing to prop...
Programmer talent is an issue. Obsidian make great deep RPGs at the "pen and paper" level. but they have always been limited at code. A main goal of the PS5 is to help reduce the coding demands on developers so they could focus on game design.
this generation we have lots of inspired 2D and 2.5D indy games from indy developers who just focus on the game design and use mostly 3rd party engines. most of the work the work dedicated to content not programming.
the developer is talking about level design. more goes into porting than simply scaling graphics, some pieces of the game just can't be scaled to fit. for example IIRC Wolfenstein on the Switch added walls reduce the rendering.
People will start to understand next gen is not about graphics.This issue here is what Cerny means when he talks about unlocking game design capabilities on PS5. the SX should be able of solving this issues but the PS% will be 100% more capable.
I want to play Uncharted 4 in 60fps. If anyone remembers it was originally supposed to be 60fps, a ND programmer was bragging about it. that's before they got real and locked it at 30fps.
The framerate issue most certainly influenced the PS5 design focus on system speed. Generally the PS4 cant' do high quality graphics and high frame-rate at the same time. the CPU and I/O weren't fast enough. Sony didn't give frame-rates priority because they wanted to focus...
"Tweak behaviours that are preprogrammed"
Yes, a more sophisticated version, more divers responses to a wider range of situation with deeper branching.
IMOO 3rd party developers would be required to integrate their game AI with the console AI.
Crossplay is a bad idea that only got promoted as trolling tool in console wars.
Most interesting part her is a single dedicated AI being your opponent or partner throughout different games. you would be racing against the same AI in GT or fighting him in Street Fighter.
This brings me back to recent comments by Gabe Newell about advancements in AI. makes me think there have been big developments in software the gaming industry is taking a look at. AFAIK NPC behavior in many open world games are based of algorithms from 3rd party developers. Seems these...
Uncharted 4 had a sweet homage to Monkey Island, and fittingly it was part of a puzzle.
" I feel like graphic adventure/point & click could be a fantastic fit for room scale VR... To be able to walk around a room .. pick up an item and have the same games told from 1st person"
Batman VR basically did this, give it a try if you can. the game is a good template for how to do an adventure game in VR.
Sony planes to compete with PC gaming in the user experience and comfort for the mass consumer. It's not practical to take on the PC platform in high end performance when just the normal GTX2080 GPU alone is almost double the expected price of the whole PS5 console, that's before aiding 36GB RAM and a fast CPU.
$h!#
Sony should have tested the DSense for this stuff before approving the design.
*sarcasm obviously :P
P&C adventure games are the precursors to deep storytelling in games even before RPGs. games today may have good stories but they hardly involve the player.
a favorite of mine is Gabriel Knight, one of the earliest mature themed games, and not because of blood and gore.
"When did they do this?"
In their imagination. You should take a look at the spec sheets some hard core X fans post on social media.
