yo masterg I agree with you that in 2007 (Q1 and Q2) overall more ps3 ans WII were sold. But don't forget that in or close to 2007 the WII and Ps3 where launched which explains why the overall number for these consoles is higher in Q1+2 in 2007.
Owning both a xbox 360 and a ps3 I can say that I am very glad that i didn't skip the Xbox 360.

Maybe sony changed their mind cause the competition is having failure rate problems.
After GTA 4 somehow I'm always thinking that Microsoft probably gave them some money. But who cares anyway I am getting this one.
A 3 year warranty is really a big plus for a console. It might even be the longest warranty on a console. Even though xbox 360 has a high failure rate know it's bound to improve.
Even though the ps3 and Wii have a far less failure rate it could be that your console failles after 2 years (so maybe we should start a petition to lengthen the warranty for the PS3 and Wii just in case) .
This shows that Microsoft is actually willing to invest heavy on the Xbox 360 ...
considering the bad press about the quality of the xbox 360 it seems likely that there will be a price drop. Even though they extended their warranty with 3 years .
Microsoft has enough money and motivation to give Sony and Nintendo a decent fight for market share.
If there aren't any ps2's to buy maybe they will buy the ps3.
But seriously why not the ps3 will be here for some more years to come and people owning a ps 2 are more likely to buy a ps3, even if it's near the end of the ps3 life cycle.
And it's just another way to keep the money rolling in.

If the problem isn't as large as posted on this site it shouldn't be that hard for Microsoft too prove that the failure rate isn't as big as a problem. But if it's they should make further steps too insure the quality of the xbox 360's.
(as a side note my xbox 360 hasn't broke down neither has one of mine friends.)
Matching the success of the ps2 not likely, since their competition has never been as fierce as know.
Comparing the ps2 or ps1 with the ps3 is bringing shame on the Ps1 and ps2.
But at the very least the ps3 will be "a" success.

while a go there was a same story with a guy who broke about the same number of xbox 360's if I remember correctly. They both seem to think that the service was quite good.

The more the better. At least that is what real sony fans should want, since this has been the key factor for sony previous consoles. And that's what both sony and microsoft are aiming for to obtain market dominance.
