The dynamic weather looks pretty cool...

I am also interested to see how the APC mobile spawn point effects game play... Lets hope we have good APC drivers, and defenders...

"The blog also provided us with some details on Vaporfield Glacier. The map features dynamic weather, so snow fall will range from very slight at times to blizzard-esque conditions at others. The lighting also will vary, with the sun sometimes hidden behind clouds to make for a more dreary battlefield experience. "

New Full Moon podcast out tomorrow... with more Resistance 2 updates...

"There's some Resistance 2 updates - including our favorite Brit (not Rolf) stopping by to talk about mo-cap - and make my life editing hell as I have to constantly edit out his references to a creature we haven't announced yet."

summary/notes...

Get used to multi-core programming, it is here to stay and that coding for the SPU's is not as hard as the FUD will have you believe.

Data design is the most important aspect of coding, especially for consoles and efficiency.

As far as in relation to Resistance 1 and 2... It shows extreme optimization of both what the PPU does and what the SPU's do. SPU usage has gone up considerably, and PPU efficiency has as well. Notice the shrinki...

I know... its funny, but the "poster" was what was faked, when people were speculating about the shot. I guess the writer was not around during all of the internet speculation (pre E3).

Someone will probably write in, and explain this to the author of the article.

What is even funnier is that people are disagreeing with you...

Your quote: "It's actually faster to read uncompressed data, because the system doesn't have to spend the time uncompressing it. "

No, it is faster to read compressed data. All compressed data is decompressed on the fly. 1024 bytes of compressed data, holds more that 1024 bytes of uncompressed data. It doesn't take much cpu to decompress on the fly at all...

There were never any "filler" files. That was a story that was run by Joystiq, and then corrected. In fact, nothing in your comment is factual.

A large percentage of Bluray movies are 50gig today. There is no problem producing these. And, there is no problem with the PS3 playing dual layer Bluray disks. Quit the silly FUD, it's not working and it looks desperate.

Note all of the BD50 bluray movies...

EDIT: And your made-up speed per layer slowdown comment is FUD as well.

@toughn

You are fanboyin' way to hard... what you are saying is in no way reality... sorry... --->

@virus

You should preface your comments about Halo "innovations" to have "console FPS innovations". Every mechanic you mentioned as "new" were already done in Quake1/Quakeworld mods. In fact there are still quite a few things from those days that have yet to make it into console FPS games. One of my favorite mods was twcre...

"Do you know why Microsoft went for HD DVD? because Blu-ray camp didn't want to support VC-1 codec"

Not really. Microsoft thought it was going to make a killing off of HDi, which of course eventually lost to BD-j. HDi was to be the money maker, not VC-1. Microsoft wanted to have their integrated HD "interactive" OS construct on all HDDVD devices. Fortunately, BD-J Java won.

Microsoft does not own the VC-1 codec, it is a part of a patent pool, ...

Technology drives choices. If a given technology is available to increase performance, a developer/designer will use it. RAID 0, disk caches, 3d cards, storage availability, over clocking, multi cores, xdr memory, high rpm drives etc... I used to tweek voodoo environment variables to get the slightest performance gains.

If it is available, use it...

About the Bluray storage question. Do realize that most bluray movie disks released today are BD50. It is said...

The fact remains...

The PS3 version does indeed load faster between levels. It has 60fps cut scenes vs 30fps cut scenes. The PS3 version also has 5.1 LPCM audio.

Can we now have a dozen articles about the positives? Or should we have a dozen articles about the fact that you cannot even play Burnout Paradise online without a hard drive in your 360?
