I think it really is as simple as Anast says.
According to that Bloomberg graph, Xbox experienced a few years of massive growth a few years ago and since then, it's been going down each year. Of course, most normal people would put that growth down to Covid but investors live in a different world. They don't see that it's making hundred of millions or even billions. All they see if that it's going down and that's enough to spook them.
It wasn't that easy. Ninja Theory were down to less than 20 employees and were forced to making a MOBA of all things (Bleeding Edge) in order to try and make enough money to survive. That game ended up being a total failure, so without MS, there's a high chance they closed anyway.
The same with Obsidian (ironically, they were on their last legs because they missed a metacritic score by 1 with Fallout New Vegas which would have netted them a huge cash bonus from Beth...
Home console sales seemingly peaked with PS2 20 years ago. Even if a console does outsell it now, it's going to be by a small amount.. like, what I mean is we aren't suddenly going to get a console that sells 400 million units out of nowhere. So yes, I think the article is spot on with their assessment.
Microsoft 365 had 155 million subs in 2018. Today it sits at just shy of 300 million. The games industry was never going to be able to have growth at those levels, ...
I don't get it... Doesn't the cash from Sony to help develop the game and keep it exclusive not cover the "sales" it would have got from being on Xbox?
It's coming out next year with Deep Down, Agent and Pragmata!
No matter what the cool people on the internet say or think, CoD is the most downloaded game over the last six months on PS5 in North America and third in EU.
So in answer to your question... millions.
There really isn't that much difference in the demographic between PlayStation and Xbox imo. If you look at the top selling games on both platforms, they are largely very similar. This is not like a Nintendo platform which caters to a completely different audience.
The only reason why games didn't sell as well on Xbox is much more simple than that. More people have just owned PlayStations than Xbox. With the exception of the first half of the 360/PS3 generation wher...
Jesus, this generation keeps on getting more and more depressing.
Andrew Wilson giving Phil Spencer serious competition for the biggest prat in gaming award 2024
How much confidence do people have in these games being good though? I hope they will be (especially Avowed) but from what we know of them so far, it's hardly a guarantee, is it?
And even if they do turn out to be good, how much of that will be down to Xbox and its leadership? Most of these games were either sequels to games made before being acquired or started development before being acquired.
And just a note on Hellblade II - it is out in two week...
What a prat.
People gave him and Matt Booty the benefit of the doubt for a few years due to the mess they inherited but a decade on and all they've done is ruin gaming for everyone.
The only success they've had is MS Flight Simulator which was developed by a third party anyway - and Forza Horizon which by pure coincidence went downhill in quality the second Playground were acquired (imo) and that's all I can think of. Everything else they'...
Embracer don't give a toss about this. Their CEO is a known flipper (something I've said here for years - feel free to look up my history to find it)
They purchased it for 300m, making a half-arsed game to fulfil a contract and then flipping it to Amazon for 600m
At least Gearbox ended up at T2. Lets hope Deus Ex finds a new home soon because these idiots are 10x worse than MS.
And yet, 91k players currently on Steam.
13th with only legendary games like DOTA2, GTAV and Counterstrike above it
Controversy my arse.
Can't argue with that, a very good lineup for May
haha was about to say the same thing.
All these articles about a new Fallout are pointless right now. A game of that scope will likely be 1 year pre-production and 4 years development MINIMUM and that's if they start on it tomorrow. Lets talk about it again in four years time when it's officially announced, not when they're still working out who may develop the bloody thing.
Wow those graphics are incredible
Oh great, now we have to deal with Anasts Bethesda fetish indefinitely.
Thanks a lot, Todd
Looking forward to finally playing that Bioshock game!
I'd say your example, although well-meant is not really fair nor comparable (imo).
If Rockstar pulled a bait and switch on that level on a gameplay/mechanical feature, I feel like it would be quite different to what I'm understanding here is just an aesthetic costume.
GTA is the biggest IP in all of media with thousands of people working on it, they'd never get away with something like that.
I get why some people are making...
To put it into perspective, take a studio like Black Box who went through a spell of churning out half decent Need for Speed games annually.
Need for Speed: Underground - 15 million+
Need for Speed: Underground 2 - 11 million+
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - 17.8 million
Need for Speed: Carbon - 15.6 million
Need for Speed: ProStreet - 10.9 million
Need for Speed: Undercover - 8.9 million
This was the norm for t...
