Because console cycles are a force of nature, you know.

They have nothing to do with our willingness to buy every new, shiny thing that hardware producers put out, or the desire of said companies to make more money as the profitability of their current machines (cough the Wii cough) wanes.

I guarantee you that if gamers weren't willing to buy news consoles every five years, you'd see longer console cycles.

It seems you weren't playing the same game I did.

Your companions are far from useless. Even on the normal difficulty you need them and effective party management is a necessity for the Hard and Nightmare difficulties. Perhaps if he wanted a deeper and more involved experience he should have played on something higher. It's not a flaw for a game to offer varying difficulty levels. All in all I thought the combat was excellent and an improvement on the original.

@Stony 4

Fair enough. Although I do think it's a bit unfair to lay down a blanket statement like "console gamers don't care for RTS games."

I think it may be more of an issue of, as you pointed out, there not being viable consoles versions of popular RTS games that match up to their PC counterparts.

I think this is something that could be fairly easy to rectify however, if a developer with a large enough game (Starcraft 2)...

I found Starcraft 64 enjoyable as its own product. As I do the PS1 version of Command and Conquer. I don't contend that they're better than the PC version, but I do think it's possible (with proper peripherals) to make a console RTS on par with a PC game.

You are correct however, that it was a bit negligent on my part to ignore things like Steam discounts.

That said, I still value the convenience of a console more. My time is limited and it's...

I actually freelance for IGN, GamesRadar and most recently GamePro. Although, I will confess I had to call them.

And I chose to write about this very simply because it is a blog, it was on my mind, and I felt like it. Never do I even try and hint that I'm saying anything altogether to revolutionary. But then again, video game journalism rarely does say anything that's not already common knowledge so I don't exactly see the problem. Perhaps I should stick to Top T...

I'm amused that you criticize my writing and yet don't use a single capital letter for the first half of your comment.

That said, you are right that I have the occasional flub with grammar. Even with a degree in English and a minor in Journalism it's a difficulty of mine. I usually return to my posts after a day or so has gone by to catch any remaining errors and hammer them out.

Thank you for calling my attention back to the post, even if you wer...

I do agree that PCs have a facet of flexibility that consoles lack. That said, I don't think it's impossible that consoles will always be bereft of that. Just this generation we've seen consoles adopt all sorts of PC-like features and only the future knows what else may come out in the future.

@Kramum

I don't know, I managed to get through Starcraft fairly smoothly with just the four hotkey buttons on the N64 controller. Moreover, you did not...

It's really dependent on your tastes. Neither my wife or I are big fans of multiplayer, and stick mostly to single player experiences. As a result our need for a gaming PC with an internet connection is limited. Buying the Dragon Age DLC was probably actually the first time its been hooked up in about a year, and we use the thing on an almost daily basis.

For surfing and such we both have laptops, which if we catch a virus or something isn't a big deal.

After considering your comments, I agree that the title of the editorial was unnecessarily inflammatory. I can't change the N4G posting at this stage, but I altered the name of article on my site to "The Number One Problem With PC Gaming (Besides Piracy)".

I hope that's more amenable to your tender sensibilities. :)

We live in an apartment complex where we share the internet with two other tenants. The router and wireless is not in our apartment. Moreover, we live in a rural area where the internet our internet is routinely unreliable. If it fails and a game requires the internet to verify whatever then I effectively can't play the game I paid for due to an unnecessary technicality.

And for the record, our PC doesn't have built in Wi-Fi. We use a USB connector that we just plu...

I understand the reasoning behind it, but I disagree with the way that companies like EA are implementing it. It's one thing to need an internet connection to download patches and such, but to require it to access content I've paid for is asinine.

If a game doesn't require the internet for gameplay, it shouldn't be required at all.

I doubt we'll see anything else from Jade Empire, at least not for awhile. It's a great game but it isn't as well known and Bioware clearly has their focus set on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

A sequel would be nice though, even if it's my least favorite Bioware property.

I actually agree with this. I usually dislike remaking games (especially turning 2D games into 3D ones) but I do think Kotor could benefit from a bit of a graphical and technical reworking. Just a smoothing out of rough edges, you know?

The point isn't this stuff is doable, it's that it isn't necessary and will likely make the PSP2 cost more than it needs to, hindering it against the 3DS.

I've actually spotted some surprisingly good deals in Wal-Mart's bargain bin. Brand new copy of Bioshock (PS3) for twenty bucks? Hell yeah!

Heh, don't understimate the ability of even the most intelligent people to make mistakes. We all do stupid crap, in real life and in video games.

My issue with fast zombies is that they force you to rely on twitch skill. I'm more interested in a more methodical sort of scare. The crowd of undead that slowly builds around you without your knowing it.

Moreover, if you integrated headshot only kills, slow zombies would become more formidable.
