I don't see the mention of upscaling anywhere in this review...am I missing something?

Also, you might be correct as far as the review, I just thought they were a little hard on it considering what it is...an cheap add-on. I would not expect the PS3 to be a great Blu-ray player, but it is. Kudos to Sony for that.

I guess I've just been very happy with it, so I thought their review was a little tough. Reviews, much like these comments sections, are just one pe...

I think the review kinda missed the point of the add-on. It's meant to give existing 360 owners an inexpensive way to get into the HD disc format. If I didn't own a 360 already, I certainly wouldn't purchase this as my HD DVD player...but since I did it was only $200 and it's a nice upgrade from DVD. I know they mention this, but it seems like they're reviewing it against standalone players.

I do have to admit that two of their points are very accurate. The lack of HDMI out...

That's fine if you don't like my console comparison, but my main point was that if it's profitable to sell HD DVD movies, companies will do it. I don't think ratios matter. Companies are in business to make money and I don't think they'll stop making HD DVD's until it's no longer profitable.

Notice I didn't say anywhere in my post that HD DVD will win, or even that it will stick around. All I said was that right now it's profitable for companies to support it. You seemed to...

Just so you know, Serenity is out on HD DVD and it looks spectacular!

Also, I'll go with NG and thank you for a non-fanboy, well thought out comment. Rare on this site. Another + for you!

I have to disagree with you on the available movies though...I've actually find that HD DVD has more movies I want right now. Serenity, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Clerks 2, and The Mummy series are some of my favorite movies and they're only on HD DVD. The only Blu-ray m...

Several people on here have used the current ratio of sales in favor of Blu-ray to "prove" that HD DVD is dead. I have to say that I really don't think that the ratio matters at all...what matters is actual sales. Look at the PS2 vs the Xbox...obviously the PS2 outsold the Xbox by about a 10:1 margin, but the Xbox still sold a lot so they kept making games for it.

So, while Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD by a wide margin, it doesn't mean that it isn't profitable for c...

I have to agree with you on that one. I can't see people paying for Live on a computer...and they certainly don't need to be holding back content for non-Live users.

Absolutely! I got one just for its upscaling abilities...it really does a nice job on standard DVDs. Of course, now I'm hooked on HD DVDs.

Plus, you can watch movies on your 360 without wearing out the drive on it.

I don't see anything in my post that is "saying a load of crap". I was responding to shikwan's remarks about what list it's #1 on. As a matter of fact, I also stated that the game looked like a lot of fun and I assume that it's selling well. The only thing I attacked was the wording in the article, which clearly does leave out a keyword...doesn't it? What about that is saying a load of crap about MotoStorm or the PS3? Why do you attack me without actually reading my post? Why ...

If you look at the quote, it says the the top of all three PS3 charts...not overall charts. The article "enhanced" the phrasing by leaving out the keyword "PS3". It is a Playstation site afterall...

I'm pretty curious as to how many copies they've sold. I assume it's doing pretty well. I haven't had a chance to play it yet as I don't know anyone with a PS3, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Sony announced a few weeks ago that they're lowering the price of their Blu-ray players...is that a sign of despair too?

Yeah, that game was awfully depressing for us...but Vick sure was fun to watch. I was in school there while he was playing, it was an awesome time to be a Hokie Fan!

Fight Club blows Titanic out of the water! (No pun intended) The thoughtful, artsy movies will never do as well as the giant special effects / cheesy love story movies. Too bad. Not that Fight Club did poorly though.

Unfortunately for me as an HD DVD owner, Fight Club is a Fox movie so it woul...

I'm a C++ guy at heart, but there isn't a whole lot of work in that language anymore unless you're at a hardcore software company. I've since moved on to web based database management systems...always in Java. I experimented with ASP.NET (mainly C#), but I work for a small company and it's just too costly. With all the open source software available in Java now, I can do almost anything the client needs for free.

I understand that...I wasn't trying to say that he's using the best programming techniques, or even that they would work. I'm just saying that this is a common technique and doesn't prove that nexgenwars is using the timestamp to update its sales totals.

All I'm trying to say is that the author of this video has no idea why he's using that timestamp...it doesn't PROVE anything. The two arguments in the video are this code and his age. Neither one proves that nexgenwars is in...

First let met say that I'm not trying to defend the nexgenwars site, I doubt it is at all accurate. However, the video is not being entirely honest. It says that he sends the current time to the server and gets a response of current sales totals. His sales totals may in fact be based on the current time, but there is no reason to send that to the server...it can determine the time itself.

The method he used (that he stole off Google) is a common practice in web programming. ...

Thanks for the info! Sounds great. I kinda wish that the XNA stuff for the 360 was a little more like this. I'm a software developer, so I certainly understand XNA, but it takes a lot more time than I am willing to invest to figure out. I would definately be interested in doing smaller content for individual games. Hopefully Sony does it right and makes it easy for more people to get involved.

I can't imagine a more difficult market to penetrate...the Ipod is a household name now. They used to be Mp3 players, now they're ALL called Ipods...regardless of who made them. If someone asked what a Zune is, I would guess your explanation would be that it's "like an Ipod" and everyone would know what you're talking about.

Of course, if there was any company out there that could compete with Apple it would be MS. They can tie everything into Windows and automatic...

Perhaps I'm out of the loop, but I haven't heard of Game 3.0 before. Is this basically the same as the 360's XNA tools? Can you create your own games, or is it for adding content to certain games (such as Little Big Planet)? Either way, it sounds like fun...

I agree that this drop in sales is completely meaningless, but that also means that the sales from the first week are meaningless too. I've seen countless articles on here about the PS3 breaking all sorts of sales records in Europe in its first week. That's certainly great news, but people used those numbers to say how the PS3 will dominate the 360...which just isn't a valid conclusion. It may very well destory the 360 this generation, but one week of numbers doesn't show that...just as on...

I have to admit that I haven't played many of these games, but it scares me that Mortal Kombat...a game where you can tear a guy's heart out or rip off his head...only made it to #9 on the list. Wow.
