Correct. Marketing says make the best graphics. Therefore, best graphics for still frames but shit frame rates and games generally looking crap in motion will be the norm again. Don't like it? Don't game on consoles.

Wow, do you really think the specifics of whether it's a monitor or TV matters that much? Sure, they do when looking at something. But it makes no difference in this discussion at all.

What about the series being ruined? Isn't that worse for fans?

All they have to do is get PC manufacturers to stick Linux and Steam on standard hardware (takes like an hour for 1). It's not like they've warehouses full of hundreds of thousands of them.

I think it'll only have about... 10 games though. Maybe less (haven't logged into Steam on Linux in a few days).

You can use a PS3 or 360 controller if you want... mods... not a bad console really, but it'd suck as an only/main gaming device.

Yeah I think all the games for it will be playable on Steam on PC or Linux (and probably Mac) anyway. I can't see it having many exclusives. So people are only going to buy it if they wanted a PC under the TV. It doesn't enable anything new, but it'd be good to have if spending the money seemed fined.

I don't think it's really going to compete with Sony/MS's platforms. But it doesn't really need to in order to survive as a product.

Hmmm... they don't have much at stake with it though. It's not a platform that can really fail, any game for steam+linux will work with it (I presume). And any Windows game with an OpenGL renderer or Mac game can be ported a lot better than to/from consoles (presuming that next-gen consoles have very unique hardware).

It also gives developers aiming at Steam a good benchmark for reasonable performance if they want. As the next console generation deepens, I'll wage...

Conker: Live & Reloaded

Not really HD remake, but the game's art style pretty much suits those graphics anyway so it might as well be. They took like 90% of the humour out and broke the multiplayer.

Everybody seems to find a different one harder than the others. On PS2, I found the car one really hard, but it was easy on the XBOX where the boat one was hard instead. On PC there are issues with the controls almost, so they vary - the bike one is a bit of a prick. I never found the flying one hard, but that damn mission in SF where you have to shoot the delivery trucks with the RC plane... FML.

And yet, no less immersive than the graphics in new games.

4184d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

I would buy NONE of their products in that case.

If they launch in 2013 they will be obsolete so much faster than this gen was, 2014 maybe.

(not sure what you're on about but) MGS4 was a decent system seller. GT5 was bought by many but by then, the PS3 had already made significant headway and a lot of first party games were out by then (a spectrum of games, so there's something for everyone).

If you look back at the PS2 and the exclusivity of FF combined with earlier launches of GTA... they were big sellers but the PS2 was popular because of the brand and launch timing.
They _would_ have been mass...

Yeah, they need them to keep profits up.
Sony needed it from first party titles due to less 3rd party sales this gen.

Next gen, it's going to be even harsher (for MS too, but they have people paying for P2P multiplayer...). They will have to keep up the same tactic, which is bringing us brilliant games so that's good. Once they take a look at 3rd party sales on the PS4, they would make less exclusives if that meant more profit (doubtful).
I'm guess...

Just to clarify, Valve aren't releasing a "console".
It's just them supporting the creation, distribution and marketing of computers bundled with Linux. Same thing MS do for Windows PCs, just with marketing (and likely distribution) differences. Though I can see why the term 'console' almost applies. Most models will be designed for use under a TV, as the desktop market is already saturated with people who would prefer to build their own etc.

There WILL be 30fps games.
The console business is lead by marketers who think graphics are the most important thing, so games have to compete for graphics (it's the easiest thing to show off in advertisements) - causing reductions in frame rates.

4187d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

The games will be cheaper, that could be quite a big factor. Effectively it can be the same experience as a console to general users if they want, but it can do anything a Linux PC can too (I'm presuming it won't run Windows).

I got disagreed to shit for saying this months ago. It's been obviously on the way for ages. HL3 will probably release for Linux at the same time as other platforms too (I'm presuming the box will run Linux rather than Windows).
