PC version looks like a functional, though slightly lazy (those shadows in the screenshot in the car wouldn't be intended on being that dark, just a minor graphics difference), decent port. They bothered to use the proper xInput API (noted by the fact you don't have to restart by switching between controls) which means they are capable of using google, which is unlike the quality of most ports. Stick in a controller, and it's the console version but cheaper, at a higher resolution...

Nintendo are like, the only game company who make their profit in hardware (they use their software IP's exclusivity to make people want to buy the hardware). So... no, they are increasing production not reducing it like the article suggests.

Not possible unless they charge $80+ for games. Or force many big titles to be digital only at ordinary retail price (absorbing the profits from the savings that should have been passed down to the consumer)

Digital versions should be $15-20 cheaper. And when sales dry up they can sell more for as little as they want (>$10 for AAA titles), they can't make a loss at that point.

4k is just up to the game, and managing the performance requirements, any new hardware should be able to support that resolution; it's the TVs where they have done an interesting move. Plus, it'll only matter if you are sitting close or it's a huge screen (like 80+ inches), other quality factors like dark levels and response time make more of a difference than just upgrading to 4k from 1080p. Edit: As in, OLED at 1080p when that's affordable - will be way better than a non-exp...

Why will discs remain important?
I can see most people just buying digitally before the next generation in over, that is if they pass the savings along to the consumer.

No. It won't. They'll certainly make more GTAs for handheld platforms though.

Pokémon MMO.

3 possibilities:

They have magically gotten a crazy amount of performance out of the consoles (or just the PS3).

The game will run at crappy frame rate (like, lower than 15fps)

Or they have it running on Wii-U, next-gen console or PC. (their tech likely works on all these platforms or is designed to)

Those graphics are not really attainable on current consoles :S

Anyway, it's not about the graphics. GTA ...

Steambox is just a reasonable console-like solution for Linux gaming, it's not much different to installing Linux and Steam on standard PC hardware. Valve will probably release a sleek Linux distribution along side it (free for DL of course).

Any Mac game or PC game with an OpenGL renderer can easily be ported to Linux, this finally gives developers more of a reason to do so. It doesn't really change the gaming landscape much, unless people choose it instead of tradit...

You've never had a right to ownership over any game. Only a license to run the software. The physical medium is unrelated, whoever holds the physical medium simply owns the license.

It's exactly the same with music, film, books and other mediums. If you don't like it, don't buy them. Simple.

"However, the library of PC games (especially new) have dwindled"

.... What. Total complete and utter bull. That's exactly what's happened on consoles.

These analysts know nothing. People will want to play the exclusives, therefore it will be fine. The games matter, end of story.

No shit. It's literally a scam. I just ignore MS consoles and pretend that they, and their games (some of which are amazing, shame the art form is ruined by business) don't exist.

PS3 has more interesting/important exclusives.

MS's business is vendor locking. Sony's business is providing entertainment.

It's to help them gain royalties for their portfolio of patents. They don't need to acquire the company simply to employ related technology.

If they make a Pokémon MMO... so much epicness would ensue. They wouldn't launch it until the console sells at a profit though, because many people would mostly play it and not much else on the system, I don't think the market conditions are right for it having a subscription fee either. 3rd party publishers probably don't want them to make one, unfortunately they do have some pressure in the console industry.

But, but.... Pokédex on the controller!

If one maker chooses to sell them cheap, the other will have to follow suit or their user base will be too small for 3rd party developers to bother with - that's assuming they are similar in performance as they were this generation.

Remember, they get a share of the cash you spend on every game so if they are confident that people will buy many new games they make up the losses on the console that probably costs $500+ to manufacture. (and digital distribution is going to ...
