For real? I was thinking it might be a US variant of football.
I speak on behalf of the entire N4G community when I say this looks great but would be so much better if instead of having physical media it had a digital download code.

I had a look the copy on the official Dbrand site, it actually says: ‘Darkplates for the uglier PS5’! 😆
What on Earth is kickball?
Switch Online had more users than the combined Xbox Series S and X user base. This comparison is relevant because it highlights the incredible challenge Microsoft has with making Game Pass profitable when so much content is included in the very affordable subscription fee. It could work if becomes the dominant service like Netflix, but it isn’t there yet.
Brilliantly pure headline that captures the absurdity!
But to be fair to Microsoft, it’s a completely unnecessary cosmetic so if someone wants to buy it that’s their choice - if people are not willing to pay that then Microsoft will drop the price. Look up horse armour in the history books for context.
This deal was likely signed some time before the ABK deal was completed, possibly over a year ago.
Whilst Microsoft the game publisher profits from games sold on PlayStation, it currently has is own console, so allowing a pack-in to a rival brand does not make sense as it could boost sales of the PS5.
NO. I'd prefer someone who does not have a frat-bro persona, that is super-rehearsed with PR speak, that talks about his achievements to prove how much of a hardcore gamer, sorry PLAYER, he/she is.
Yes I'd like to see PlayStation improve its communication but Jim Ryan, for all his shyness, was always authentic. I used to like Phil, but compare how he would answer if Starfield was coming to PS5 with if Elder Scrolls VI is, he gives a non-answer so that he avoids any...
Opinions may vary.
Exactly. Leaving aside that the meaning which of course is universal, when you hear Play it’s the first syllable of PlayStation.
Super Mario Bros Wonder means, it’s a good time to play, on Nintendo Switch.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 means, it’s a good time to play, on PlayStation 5.
Netflix has more chance of going mainstream than Game Pass and PS Plus simply because it is a platform that millions of non-hardcore gamers are already using worldwide. Why did Candy Crush do so well? Because it was available on the platform that non-gamers already had -their phones!
Think about the most likely use case: a person who has a PS5 Slim digital will have been using the console to download then play digital games, in other words just like Xbox Series S users. These consoles literally need the internet to work. If then a PS5 Slim DE owner wants to play disc-based games they will now have the option of buying an add-on that will require access to the internet for setup - considering they would have been using their console with the internet this one time is hard...
It sounds like a one-time thing during setup.
Why do some low-quality websites have to present this as some kind of always-on internet required scandal?
‘Most new subscriptions on launch day’ without numerical context, actual figures, is meaningless.
Starfield had been hyper anticipated for years, the cheapest method to access and play it is with Game Pass - so that this game has a been a bigger draw than Forza Horizon 5 and the scaled back Halo Infinite is not a surprise. Halo Infinite’s launch, might’ve led to ten new subscriptions and Starfield, just eleven. Of course it won’t be as low as that but without Microsoft givi...
Game Pass’ success, with the present business model, depends on Xbox consoles gaining a massive user base. However if the hardware business is underperforming then MS will be squandering its new IP. Minecraft is its biggest game for revenue, if it can generate or beat that kind of profit with Call of Duty without having to invest in hardware than maybe Phil Spencer is right in claiming that MS will consider exiting the hardware business.
@Roarke Great point!
Jeeze, the PS3 Red Dead remaster is outselling Starfield which dropped out off the UK top ten just 1-2 weeks after its ‘number 1’ debut.
Many websites used Starfield’s first week success to claim it’s ’proof’ that Game Pass / subscription services don’t affect games sales, but clearly it does because in terms of unit sales it has no legs.
@Vits, it’s not an allusion it’s a direct and explicit comparison. It’s relevant because each product does not exist in a vacuum.
