Even if you agree, this article is so misleading and sensationlist.
It makes me actually feel sick. I am disgusted by this.
NOTE: I have not read the article, I am responding to the title.
It's becuase we consider fear mongering a mainstream form of entertainment, it's an emotion that is fun, along with action.
People play scary games, becuase they are tired of the stale emotional palette they consist of. Something is cool or badass, it's all entertainment.
Meant to say thanks here! You're right and he fixed the link.
Thanks man!
exactly :/ What the hell is this article talking about?
Wow, now this is exciting.
Will Wright truly is amazing.
No doubt I won't like the games he comes up with, and chnaces are they will be for the Wii, but he doesn't half create some amazing games, that help introduce audiences outside gaming, to games.
I would invest in shares in that company pronto.
qface, you are completely right.
But money clearly changed hands. There's nothign more to it. And it would have been far more expensive for MS to buy RE5 timed exclusivity, becuase it's massive in the East, and the Playstation is really important there.
So Lost Planet is not an exclusive I am too upset about. It's kind of a weird one. :D
xD Appreciated.
Had I know Pat at VG247 would have made an artcile about it, everyone would have known about 5 hours earlier.
Not that it makes a huge difference.
As the story says... I am totally to thank for.
Completely. Ignore that Johhny Cullen part.
But it's not entertainment.
It's not fun to watch, it's got no action sequences. If you can watch Citizen Kane all the way through, and you can't play ICO all the way through, then you have ulterior motives for disliking it, or not appreciating it.
Simple as that.
He's a high brow critic, ofcourse he does.
And good for him. Movies have been a round for almost 100 years (publicly accessible).
You have to play it first before you can say that.
I am sure this will have social commentry, but I think another medium could have expressed it pretty accurately.
Don't be so stupid.
Is DieHard 4.0 high art? No. It's entertainment.
Is Halo 3 high art? No. It's entertinament.
And you know what, Bioshock, Mass Effect, MGS4 and Okami are not games as high-art. Effort is not an indication of art. Neither is intention. It's reception and context.
My god....
Ever tried to watch Citizen Cane?
Then you realise why both Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are actually art. Shadow of the Colossus foudn a superb balance though.
Now stop being so insolent.
NO.... Not at all.
MGS4 is the only one I can think of with a political and social commentry in it. But it could have been done in a movie, and it could have been FAR better edited.
Okami is NOT anymore a piece of art than you're regular puzzle platformer. It's almost informative. But people get confused by art direction
Shadow of the Colossus and ICO are actually the first games to properly facilitate games as a piece of art. The first time.
Hahah...
Man you really don't know your stuff sometimes.
Regardless of art style, there is a real reason why ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are actually considered art as opposed to Okami. More than the 'look' of it.
Everyone likes a nice vocabulary, but when this guy when through the thesaurus on Word, he didn't cover his tracks very well.
Sounds like he's eating a Mars bar sideways, while popping Maltesers at the same time.
PS3 will be getting exlcusive online RTS's then?
Awesome.
More the merrier.
Just less cruddy MMO titles please.
I think more than anything this is a great sign to Sony, to see their game designs imitated on a rivals platform.
It means they are creating great games.
Microsoft has never spawned a copycat.
Huh? How will you delete them?
As for the matter at hand. It's not a 'PR' term, and it's not even a marketing term, which I am sure is what you meant.
It purely means they are creating a game that is going to be aiming for critical and commercial success, and will therefore have a 'triple A' budget.
It's all about the investment and forecast. They aren't marketing it or being arrogant.
