That hasn't been confirmed yet, but if they do come out then they will help make it a more exciting year first party wise for the PS4.

@Sammarshall

You aren't understanding. Part of this whole "dominating" aspect also hinges on the exciting first party games that a company provides. Which is why Microsoft isn't often considered, but Nintendo and Sony are. Is it the sole reason? Absolutely not, but the lack of exciting first party titles doesn't provide a good foundation for next year.

But, just for fun, let me match your exclusive list with what's confirmed for ...

@sammarshall102

And I mentioned those exclusives when I said "PS4 has some great third party releases coming up". My concern is first party, as evidence by my post.

@sammarshall

Do you understand what first party is?

@thatguyhayat

You don't know what Nintendo could have leading to December either. They could announce a lot more.

@generic

"multiple sources" doesn't mean confirmed, and until it is there is no telling when it's going to come out.

Why don't you define what your metric is. Don't just say "reality". The future hasn't happened yet...you are in no better position to predict than I am. Don't be insulting.

I don't see how. PS4 has some great third party releases coming up, but it's confirmed 2019 first party lineup consists of three titles: Medievil, Days Gone, and Dreams.

2018 was all Playstation, but this year is going to be Nintendo's year to shine.

Depends on your metric. I think they will.

I have an NES and SNES Classic for a lot of these games, so this doesn't interest me as much as, say, N64 games would. Still nice though. Improvements are always welcome.

@Rainslacker

It's not just that the PS4 version didn't sell more. It's surprising because it sold a third of what Xbox did with almost three times the install base.

1946d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Nice! I think PS4 hit that number in a similar timeframe too. Both consoles are neck and neck right now.

If the Switch is behind Wii, 3DS, DS, and GBA in Japan I'd hate to see how far the PS4 is behind.

1950d ago 8 agree2 disagreeView comment

It's surprising because of the install base. Which they point out quite plainly in the article.

@Rude-ro

Well, the Switch is being purchased more by adults (25-35) than kids at this point, so I don't agree that their primary fanbase is kids with some older long time fans. I think that anyone can enjoy the whimsical nature of their titles, and they try to cater the market to as many people as possible, but they are more family friendly overall, and probably have a more spread out demographic overall than Xbox or Playstation.

"Nintendo falls flat and usually pretty fast"

That depends on what you are talking about. Their handhelds have legs. The Gameboy was selling for over 11 years, and the DS was still selling a couple million a year until around 2014. Even the 3DS has been on the market for almost 8 years now. Their home consoles have a tendency to peak in year three though.

"Then the new Xbox and PS5 will come out and take all of the attention limiting what Switch can do. It will never match PS4 numbers"

Not necessarily. Switch coming out didn't take the attention away from PS4 or Xbox. By the time those consoles come out the Switch will probably have received a price drop to $250 or $200, and the PS5 and "Scarlet" will presumably be priced over $400 or higher. The market has room for all three, just like they did last ...

"The switch sales are lower than the first year"

Actually, Switch sales are up. Looking at their earnings release, from April, 2017 to September, 2017 they'd sold 4.89M units, and as of April 2018 to September, 2018 they've sold 5.07M units. Also, Nintendo NPD said that Nintendo was up YoY in US for November sales, and it's being projected they're up around 17% for December as well.

As for the gam...

I think that the PS4 reached the threshold of saturation, so it's likely going to start a natural decline. Even with a price cut (unless it's heavy). Nintendo is at a point where they are still climbing. Typically Nintendo's third year is it's best selling year for their consoles, so this next coming year should be it's highest selling year for the Switch. PS4's highest selling year was it's fourth year, though PS4's fifth year (this last year) was still higher...

Pretty interesting to see six Switch exclusives in the top 10 in the US. Two out of 10 in the UK. Pretty good Nintendo. You'll need to get the UK presence up a little bit, though.

1957d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

It will be a hard goal to meet. They are tracking over what they did last fiscal year, and last fiscal year they sold over 15 million units. I'm thinking this year they will get to 17 million with the push from Pokemon and Smash this quarter.

I also think that New Super Mario Bros is going to boost units for the last quarter, but it's not going to boost it anywhere near Smash since NSMB is a port.

I don't think Naughty Dog put anything out for 2018, and I think this is just a list of developers who put out games in 2018.
