Virtual Desktop and the custom SteamVR overlays are really exciting. Multiple monitors as big as you want.
I think big things are in store for VR on PC.
I cant wait. Lucky's Tale and Chronos will be the games that push the Rift into mainstream VR.
Im hoping VorpX gets some support from Oculus or Valve so we can make more of our gaming library VR ready. VorpX is close to the answer, but its not quite perfect yet.
@Muadiib
Im actually a PC gamer so the PSVR isnt applicable to myself.
Ive played everything from Half Life to Skyrim in VR first person and Ive never had a problem. Ive been disoriented when my character gets knocked back or down. But locomotion has been very smooth.
I think more people need to actually try VR before imagining how it would feel to "move" around without moving. Im not sure if youve tried VR but Ive put enough hours in t...
@Brandan
Ive used DK2 for over 50hrs with only an Xbox 360 controller. Ive flown an Xwing, navigated a dungeon in 3rd person, rode a billion roller coasters, flew a Mech over 100ft in the air, all with nothing but the controller. Disorientation is either nonexistent or fades quickly. The exhilaration of true depth and height first may be a bit weird, but its quickly forgotten.
Disorientation becomes elation.
The fact that they keep downplaying the VR aspect really bothers me. Either they should double-down and tout the VR experience, or just let it drop once and for all. VR HMDs are launching in weeks and No Man's Sky could be at the forefront of VR games.
What you call "disorienting" Most people call immersion. VR does clever things so you dont feel like you're not in control. Having a HUD of some type gives the player a fixed point of reference ie) cockpit of car or mech. This greatly enhances the experience because you feel like the world moves around you, rather than you floating around omniscient.
Doesnt look like it so far. :(
Although to be honest, Microsoft "Exclusives" have a way of not being too exclusive in a few months. Ex) Ori, Ryse, Dead Rising 3. So who knows. There may be hope yet. I have my doubts. Micro$oft will want to keep maximum profits in house.
@Oneshot
They are most certainly not the same as buying from another store. Windows locks your framerate, doesnt let you use an overlay, doesnt have an .EXE file, and it gives you Zero chance for mods or community patches.
Windows is the iTunes of gaming. Steam is still a far better distribution model.
I would skip 4K for now unless you like playing newer games at 30fps and under. 1440P is the sweet spot right now. Plenty more pixels and still maintain a great framerate.
Then why comment at all? You surely didn't say anything positive about my comment. Just left a condescending 'username checks out'
What of it? I'm not allowed to be happy for a Steam exclusive? Everyone on this site is horny for their Uncharted and Halo exclusives. In fact most on here argue ad nausea that exclusives keep the consoles alive.
But a Steam exclusive? Surely that must be denounced with maximum rancor.
Mario Tennis Wii U is not worthy of the Mario endorsement.
So how does the commentary work? Please god don't let Goldie go it alone.
That's too bad. $400 on the Steam Store would go a long way.
You bought an Xbox One just for Quantum Break?
Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk. Still Bubs + for the dad joke.
"Exclusive to Steam"
I like the sound of that.
Really great article. I agree with most of what he said. I dont think there is a PC gamer alive that would switch to console because of DRM, but I guess I havent met everyone in the world yet.
I wouldnt say salesmen, I would think more along the lines of Delusional. They literally believe the crazy things they say.
But of course if the majority of people believes a lie, it becomes the truth. As long as N4G provides the echo chamber for these people to reaffirm their delusions, they will just keep coming.
Good lord I hope they get away from collecting lugs ad nausea. I would rather enjoy level design rather than destroy anything and everything in sight and chase around the stupid things just to hit the True Jedi requirement.
