I'm sure it does. And in 20 years when I have a PC capable of running an emulated Breath of the Wild at 60fps, I'm certain it'll be a phenomenal game.

Not that I expect to live that long, though.

Yeah, no. Being "open world" was never DQ8's biggest selling point. It's selling points were its orchestral soundtrack, classic DQ gameplay, unique Toriyama art, storytelling and the "Dragon Quest" brand.

Dragon Quest was not some niche SNES-era series when DQ8 came around.

Also, holy fuck are there some major factual errors in this "article." Mass Effect never promised to be an open world game... and wasn't. Trav...

...Like it or not the Switch is not some magic little special snowflake. It shares a market with many other competitors, and pretending otherwise is exactly why Nintendo finds itself consistently losing out to the competition. I mean, there's a reason why they started making mobile games, ya' know?

I might see Nintendo doing another platform if the Switch fails, but the most realistic future I see in that (very-easy-to-imagine) eventuality would be them dividing between producing AAA titles for Sony/Microsoft platforms and possibly PC, and focusing on mobile games. If they were able to market the Switch as a 3DS successor (and made it backwards compatible with 3DS/NDS games) I could definitely have seen them carve out a permanent niche in the handheld market... though I suppose a Switch...

At least with the Vita Sony was able to say, "Look, we'll give you backwards compatibility eventually."
And they did, and that was a big reason for PSP gamers--and gamers who never bought a PSP--to grab a Vita.

Totally agree with this reviewer. I'm a mentally retarded paraplegic infant, and I need everything to be very carefully spoon-fed.

This is just complete bullshit. I'm astonished they actually think anyone will buy it.

Using the gamepad for certain functions--like manipulating a map or accessing the inventory--is great. Not having to pause the game to fiddle with menus is kind of the whole point of the second-screen functionality. There certainly are cases where "second screen" play can fuck up the gameplay experience... but not when it's used to access menus.

If Nin...

I think it's pretty obvious that Nintendo does not have a plan. The simple fact of the matter is that Nintendo is not able to support any platform with AAA-quality games by themselves. They don't have the money, and even if they did, they definitely don't have the manpower. They also don't play well with third party developers, which means they're stuck catering to their die-hard fans (which is why peripherals are so obscenely overpriced, btw) while desperately hoping to r...

And conversely an abundance of shovelware does not indicate a lack of quality. Like it or not, some of the best PS3/XB2/Wii generation were on the Wii.

But, yeah, the sales of the Wii were the result of a number of factors converging at once and those circumstances are not going to repeat. As they say, lightning never strikes the same place twice.

If by "harmed" he means opened them up to a massive worldwide audience that would otherwise never have even heard of them? Then, yeah, they harmed the hell out of 'em.

These are the must-buy games currently on sale:

Guacamelee (PS3/PSV) - $3.74
Suikoden II (PS3/PSV/PSP) - $2.99
Suikoden III (PS3) - $3.99

If you're library is missing any of those titles, now's a great time to remedy that.

Xenoblade is, like, right over there.
So is Trails in the Sky.

Why wait for a game that might be great, when great games already exist?

2867d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

After Star Ocean 3, and then 4, I don't think very many people were breathless with anticipation for the fifth entry.

Remasters *are* ports.

2873d ago 1 agree6 disagreeView comment

Not very surprising. The franchise has only had two good games, both of which are over a decade old.

Saw, "Dragon's Dogma" at #10 and realized it wasn't a list of 2016 RPGs.
Saw, "Final Fantasy Explorers" at #9 and realized it wasn't even a list of good RPGs.

So: it's a shit list with each entry separated by a different link. Gotta love the neverending stream of low-quality clickbait, eh?

Besides the fact that Nintendo won't pay for it?

Square-Enix hasn't localized a Dragon Quest game since the DQ4 remake on NDS, and even then they half-assed it.

I'll have to admit to being vaguely nauseated by all these previews written by people who never bothered to play the first game.

Really? Japanese, too. Which makes me think--is it the same for Portuguese? (Because the Japanese were more likely to import words from the Portuguese or Dutch than Spanish).

2879d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

No, no, that's not what I'm saying. The concept of "here's a spaceship, now go around and explore the galaxy" is a pretty common premise. The idea of being able to go to any star system and visit any planet and heavily customize your ship, too, is not a new one.

Go check out The Ur-Quan Masters. It's freeware, and you can even get it on your phone.
