Edit: actually technically this article is about two weeks off. So technically the Switch already has, they just haven't made the article with the data.

Next week Switch outsells the Gameboy and becomes the third best selling videogame console of all time.

Sometimes there are deals (e.g Sony paid for exclusivity either full, partial, or timed) Sometimes they are Japanese focused games and they may come to Xbox later (or they don't see a point in porting it due to perceived poor performance). It's not rocket science

The fact is, the exclusives are good enough to buy the console. So that's a good thing that Nintendo has done. People didn't feel that way about the Wii U.

Okay? It's not like all portable consoles have sold as much as the Switch has. Not really sure what your point is here

Switch will still sell more than 13M units between March 2023 and the end of it's life. A Switch successor hasn't been announced yet. From the time the 3DS was announced to the end of the DS's life the DS still sold almost 26M units. Selling half of that when the successor isnt even announced yet should be definitely doable for the Switch

I'm referencing shipments, not sold through. Sold through would be 1-2 million off, depending. That is, by the end of March the shipments will be 126-127M but sold through (what VGChartz looks for) will be around 124-126M.

Anyway, Nintendo routinely sells almost half their yearly total in the holiday period.

I don't know why you are singling out a single week in the year. Here are the fiscal years (FY 2018 ended March 2018, keep that in mind)

FY 2018: 15.05M
FY 2019: 16.95M
FY 2020: 21.03M
FY 2021: 28.83M
FY 2022: 23.06M
FY 2023: 19M projected

They aren't going to go from 19M in one year to less than 13M for the rest of it's life. FY 2024 will probably be 13-14M alone at minimum.

Gameboy will also be outsold in the next couple of weeks.

Those thinking that 140M is the max are going to be in for a surprise. Switch shipments should be around 126-127M by March 2023. 13-14M for the rest of it's life would be no problem. PS4 sold that much in a similar timeframe (e.g. after Nov 2019), and, clearly, Switch is selling at a faster rate than that console did.

So Nintendo is the only company that can sell based on exclusives (e.g.first party) alone? Got it

540d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I'd prefer to spend $300 less often than more often.

541d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

Probably over 130M. By the end of the year it'll be at 123M or so. At that point they just need 17M to get past that range. 17M for the rest of it's life should be a cakewalk

Keep up those disagrees, people. You've been disagreeing with the inevitable for a long time.

Anything to make yourself feel better, eh?

Just like that, the Switch outsells the PS4. In another two weeks it will outsell the Gameboy. Then it has some distance before the DS and PS2, if it can manage it.

Good job Switch.

I'm fine waiting longer for a larger step up in a Switch 2. I don't need a half step like a Pro right now.

The problem with Pokemon isn't even the Switch. Xenoblade 3 looks miles better. Even Arceus looks better than Scarlet and Violet. Nintendo and Gamefreak need to start taking that franchise seriously, because the shoddy quality will eventually cost consumers even if it didn't this time

@Cbaoth

PC is a good platform with regard to playing many games from across generations, but there are SOOO many games that are exclusive to PS1, PS2, and PS3 I'd love to play on a modern device. I have a PS3 hooked up to my bedroom TV, and I'd prefer not to have to move it anytime I want to play in my living room.

Anyway, Xbox could never exist and I'd still want BC. Sony was doing BC before Xbox existed. I don't own a series x and I dou...

Just got a PS5 recently with God of War. I would have gladly paid an extra $100-$200 on a PS5 Pro or upgraded model that played PS3 games too.

I have a PS3 in my room, but it'd be nice to be able to play with a comfy controller and in the living room without packing everything up and moving it.

The cell wouldn't destroy modern CPUs. It was VERY powerful for it's time, but it's 16 years old. Modern CPUs have hundreds of times more transistors, larger and faster caches, etc.

In 2006 the fastest on the market CPU had about 250 million transistors (and cost $999), a fast CPU today has over 2 billion transistors and costs $400.

If the Cell was this incredibly powerful and efficient product, Sony would still be using it. But it cost too ...

There is already a PSP game available. It's called Kingdom of Paradise.
