Switch maintaining a good baseline of 300k. If they can keep this up through the summer (unlikely) it will eventually catch up to 2021. 2021's first few months was amazing, but the summer and fall were a bit disappointing in comparison.

XSX is doing a good job closing the gap, but it still has a while to go. A deficit of 4.8M means that it would need to maintain this 30k lead every week for 160 weeks, so over 3 years. That said, it's a very good achievement regardl...

Look at the VGChartz articles in N4G from a year ago. Even the network manager here at N4G suggested that MS didn't care about manufacturing consoles and were just focused on gamepass (using it's lower sales as evidence) and suggested if they really wanted it they could buy out the competition in parts manufacturing.

Well...here we are

What I think is funny about all these "MS is keeping chips away from Sony" comments is that, around this time last year, a bunch of people were saying "If MS has so much money why don't they just buy more chips at a higher price" as an excuse for it not selling as well as the PS5 at the time.

Well, your wish came true I suppose.

Clearly you're misunderstanding the argument. I'm NOT discounting PS3 BC. You're discounting Wii U and 3DS BC. So if true BC is complete and utter compatibility with no limitations, PS3 doesn't make the cut. That's not MY definition. That's what YOU are trying to say it is based on your responses.

This is why I said I like to keep things simple. Wii U, 3DS, DS, GBA, Wii, PS3, early PS3 devices are all true BC devices. Xbox 360, PS Vita, Xbox One are...

Simply put, "true" BC doesn't mean it has to be backwards compatible with ALL previous devices. The 3DS and Wii U count as "true" BC devices. Your attempt to create some alternative meaning for what a "true" BC device is doesn't matter.

Also, again, even the hardware-based PS2 backwards compatibility on PS3 had compatibility issues. Some games didn't work. So the "without any buffers or limits" thing simply isn't true....

"true BC" isn't *every* system. True BC is when it is using a solution that doesn't require downloads or internet services to play. If true BC is defined as complete and total compatibility with all prior systems then the PS3 wasn't true BC either because it wasn't compatible with every game (particularly when they moved to partial emulation but even before that).

I like to keep things more simple than that.

They did. It's called Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Both used Havok

@lexreborn

Wii U and 3DS were both backwards compatible with their predecessors fully. So PS3 was definitely not the last *true* BC device.

Gran Turismo 7 launching on the PS4 as well as the PS5 is in no way anti-consumer.

Also, MS literally puts "console launch exclusive" on half of the things they reveal from third parties these days. Sure, I'd love the message to be more clear, but kinda stretching it thin if these are really the only examples of anti-consumer practices.

They literally announced the same thing when the PS5 did it. There is no "fanatic" running VGChartz.

You keep saying I "don't understand" when I haven't said anything that shows I don't understand. Pointing out that a product didn't get support is separate from stating why it received no support. Im staying a fact. You're iterating an explanation. Doesn't change the fact. You're responding in an emotional way and attempting to insult me by making a pretty baseless assumption. So, yes, unprofessional.

If you feel three years and nine mo...

There are way uglier consoles out there. My top five ugliest:

1. Nokia N-Gage
2. Gizmondo
3. Atari Jaguar
4. Atari XEGS
5. Nintendo Entertainment System

Updates aren't part of game development. The last released game was in 2015. Your argument was either a red herring or you misunderstood my point. If I'm talking about development and publishing I'm talking about games not firmware. I'm not going to continue battling this one as I've already clarified my position.

You can absolutely measure developer support in terms of months. There is no reason to use fiscal report quarters over months for this. Als...

1. Red herring. This wasn't my argument. I clearly stated development and publishing. Last game they published was 2015 for the console.
2. They did not publish games for four full years. Even if you're using the December, 2011 release date in Japan the last game I could find from Sony was September 2015. Which that game wasn't even published in Japan.
3. Refer to point 1.
4. It's always nice when a manufacturer supports their console until the ve...

Sony "killed" it in that they stopped supporting the console from a development standpoint very early on. They only gave the console three years of a support through publishing and development. That's really not a lot.

Fantastic comment, jsyk. Very well rounded. We need more of this on N4G

Sure, some more than others though.

With regard to my comment though, you can see how supply constraints limited the holiday boost for PS5. Because of that, Switch will crossover launch aligned and possibly never look back. They would have traded blows for another year or two before Switch really took off had supply constraints not been so severe.

791d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

Because of the supply constraints, in a couple of weeks Switch will take the lead. If the supply constraints weren't there it probably would have been a double helix situation for a while longer, like it was with the PS4. It sucks that just didn't happen this time.

Not going to happen. Switch successor wont come until 2024 at the earliest. Switch is selling too well right now.
