@ ryhanon
These aren't my words, but I feel this guy summed it up pretty well:
"Source Engine was by far the prettiest engine available in 2004, despite lower hardware requirements than competing engines. Heck, in my opinion, Orange Box Source is still the best engine on low-to-midrange hardware.
Facial Animation is taken for granted today, but it was revolutionary when it came out. Before HL2, HL1-style flapping jaws was the norm. ...

I used to be the same way, but Steam sales motivated me to upgrade to a 1.5TB :)
Ah, a fellow resident of the northeast I see :p Working in telecom and having done contract work for Fairpoint, I feel for you. I really do.
Well, short of getting the server code and running a private server, this will stop piracy. They have already stated that all character information is stored server-side, not locally.
The level of detail does look impressive, I agree. The only problem with the tech is that the memory requirements are huge, and animation is incredibly difficult-- to the point that it's entirely impractical to use it as a game engine. It may get there someday, but in its current state its only good for static worlds.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again-- Graphics pull you in, and game play keeps you there.
Not sure it will be quite that easy. Characters are going to be stored server side, so its not just a matter of disabling the online requirement. Pirates may have to set up private servers to play, and it can be difficult/time consuming to get server side software working. It basically looks like they will be running this like an MMO.
Yeah, I've been a PC gamer forever, and have never really been too bothered by DRM, though two games come to mind- the original F.E.A.R game, secure rom repeatedly said my disk wasn't legit and Assassins Creed 2- Ubi servers down, try again later. The hell do I need servers for to play a single player game? Please, make me download cracks for games I actually purchased.
Doesn't XP cap out at DX9 anyway?
They are referring to playing through the game using only one character, rather than using a party.
Very true. Its a good thing that they are also very useful/necessary for other things as well.
Here, I went through the trouble of finding you a walk through on how to plug your computer into your TV

Laptops work too!
I assume you'll be able to attach a controller yourself :)
You can thank me later.
There sure is- marketing and availability on ps3 and 360. While both are great games, I don't think anyone who has played both could say with a straight face that (graphics aside) Morrowind wasn't a better game.
Whats with the author of the article always using the word "too" instead of "to"?
Well, in all fairness, it has always been on the PC platform as well.
I've always found the best source for info on buying a video card the "Best Graphics Card for the Money" articles that Tom's Hardware puts out monthly. I believe they also have the same articles for CPU's.
Perfect example here of why you should never go "full retard".
Holy run-on sentence, Batman!
Whoa whoa whoa :) Like I said, those were not my opinions, I was just trying to find an example to give ryhanon, if he was in fact asking a serious question.
On a side note, it has been years since I've played HL-2, so I probably remember it with rose-tinted glasses, but I still remember it as one of the best FPS shooters I've ever played.
Didn't mean to get everyone so riled up :)
Oh, and not to stir the pot, but vyke3, gta act...
