Its mostly games that are failing, barely breaking even, or not gaining new players that tend to go F2P. There are some F2P success stories from good to decent games, but if you're game has legs to it, it won't go F2P. That being said, I don't know the amount of content/staying power DCUO has to offer. Sony doesn't do F2P often, I think so far the only Pay to Free conversion has been EQ2?
@Starcb
Hard to say really, Valve buys all the keys from the developer/publishers for whatever rate it was set at, then turns around and sells them for whatever they feel like. Sometimes Valve makes a profit, sometimes they take a loss but get new users. They have found a great balance and pretty much everyone ends up happy :)
Yup, same as all P2P MMO's. Fist month sub comes in the price of the game, ~$15 a month recurring after. Most MMO's will release a 7-14 day trial several (or more) months after release.
I really think it would be funny if they made a new game in their old "Marathon" universe. I really wonder how the IP ownership would work in that, considering M$ owns the Halo IP, but Halo is pretty much a spin off of the Marathon series.
@SuperStrokey
Lol, the developers aren't trying to recuperate the cost of burning the disk. They need money to cover the cost of all the development time. A developer should see money (albeit they never will)for used game sales, because the person playing the game used is getting the same experience as the guy who played it new. This experience is what the developer is getting paid for, not the physical 2 cent disk. And yes, to a developer/publisher, the used market is ...
Pretty sure I read that they killed it.
Enter the competition in what? Neither hand-helds or phones are new territory for them.
Technically speaking, the PS3 wasn't cracked. The key data was stolen :/
There really aren't that many "turn-based" mmo's on the market. Actually, only one comes to mind - Atlantica online, a pretty good F2P.
Yeah, current games already come with the newest versions of firmware on them. The installations are mandatory before playing the game. This is actually a positive thing for legit users who don't have online, letting them also get the latest updates.
Yeah, small ads pop up in the corner, but they're quite unobtrusive. Regardless, it still doesn't cost anything to play.
Heh, I just watched that video. Memories, memories.
Yeah, its free on android devices...$10 is a bit of a price hike. Oh, and wtf is the Intel AppUp Center anyway? Another DD looking for a piece of Steams pie?
Yeah, I have this on my PS3, but still got excited for a few seconds about a pc version. Then I remembered gta IV, which after 10 min of play wish I could delete from my steam account.
Haven't they pretty much already done that?

I mean, if you want some kiddie games with no depth sure...
A lot of people have been spouting out the "360's been out for 5 years. Why did they wait till now...derp." Now, if this isn't a frivolous lawsuit, its probably due to changes made in the hardware (we all know that its not the same hardware as launch), the slim hasn't been out that long either. It could be a chip or piece of hardware used in that.

"One of the first things you're going to see is improved graphics," Houston said. "We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into t...

There's many reasons to not be a multi-console gamer. I started out with a 360 as my first "next-gen" console, and after going on the 3rd console due to RROD, I gave up on it. I couldn't justify spending another dime on a product that to me, was guaranteed to break again. I've been quite content just playing games on my PC and PS3 setups.
Didn't I read that the PS3 port of ME2 is using the ME3 Engine? That would probably explain it...
No, the $10 M$ and Sony tax is why console games are $10 more than PC games. As far as Activision charging $60 for PC games, yeah, that's why everyone hates them.
