Wasn't GOTY like some people thought it was, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and that was after hating on it the entire lead-up to its release.
Monolith did a great job turning something that could have been another licensed shovelware game and making it solid, entertaining game, with a fun unique feature (Nemesis system).
It was one of the few games that even once I was ultra-powered, I'd still seek out combat because I found it so satisfying. Maybe not ...

Yeah all these key reseller sites are a bit sketchy, but I just picked it up and am downloading it now! $12.06 after using the 5% off code that the dealspwn site links to.
The CD-key site takes Paypal, so if you have an account, just use that. If the code doesn't work or they screw you, it is easy to dispute it via Paypal and get your money back.

I'm not sure if you can call open-world games 'fads' at this point. They were a fad after GTA3 came out and everybody started copying them (Jak anyone?), and then perked up again in the PS3 gen when systems had enough horsepower to be more easily able to render them.
At this point they're just part of game design, up to designers to use them or not. They've been around for almost 15 years, so I don't think they're a fad anymore...

I hated on this game SO MUCH for writing new lore into the Tolkien universe. I mocked it nonstop all last year until it got released and started getting really good praise.

It's a dual-stick shooter with random power-ups that pop up. Bland graphics, but decently fun. Calling it an RPG is crazypants though.
Shame JS Joust won't work - stupid PS Move driver issue. Hopefully they'll be able to setup a bootable linux solution for Windows users (or people could just play it on the PS3/4 - it's super fun!).
Bari Bari Ball is still probably my favorite though. Looks bizarre and kind of lame until you start playing it, then it becomes crazy addictive. Was the most popular game at my last party!
Came here to post just this. Most people don't understand the realities of software development from a code perspective, which tends to cause unrealistic expectations at times (how could there be bugs? why is there no patch/why is this patch so big?).
FWIW, even I didn't really get it until I started working in software development a couple years back. It was eye-opening.

The story was fine, the ending to the game was fine. Never understood how people could freak out over either.
Neither were particularly amazing (and indeed, seem positively barebones now that I'm in the middle of an epic Dragon Age 3 run), but to say that the writing or story ruined or even particularly impacted my enjoyment of SoM would be woefully untrue.

Yeah I do that a lot too! I beat Diablo III, Black Flag, Infamous: SS, and I'm working my way through Dragon Age on the Vita right now.
I don't mind her marathoning Gilmour Girls when I can do that. :D
L2 doesn't go reverse in default control mode. It goes into tank mode if you hit L2 - it seriously messes me up.
