I dislike this mentality that 7's and 8's are now equal to a "pretty low score" by today's standards. It proves how broken the review system is.
Wii Mario.
Wii Zelda.
Wii Metroid.
Wii Punch.
Wii Icarus.
Wii Kong.
Wii Pii!
Each game containing 30 EXCITING NEW minigames!
Well Viper, the issue is that people vote with their dollars. We can harp about how we want innovation and new IPs, but when we don't stand as a consumer and purchase titles like LBP or Valkyria Chronicles, all companies see are those missing $$$$.
In a sense, we only have ourselves to blame. I lament that we will never see Okami 2 or a new Viewtiful Joe, yet we are on Madden what... 21? 50 Cent 2? *sigh* We need balance, and we need to prove it with our purchases.
No, it's about having fun. You remember fun right? Before the console war BS permeated every facet of the media, and people started caring more about textures, fill rates, AA, YTD sales, SKUS...
Fun. Games. Fun. Gasp!
Can someone explain to me why every time a dev speaks out, its taken as 100% fact gospel truth? Opinions still happen.
Hayashi, who did NG Sigma, said PS3 wasn't bad and devs need to put up or shut up.
The head of Lost Odyssey said he liked the 360 better and it was easier.
Now we have this.
People, at varying skill levels and talent/knowledge levels, will have differing opinions. Let's listen to them, instead of using this as more ammuniti...
VoiceofReason and Man of the Year, I agree, and you both make excellent points. I just shake my head at people who instantly assume the situation is "PS3 killed Factor 5 and Free Radical." The truth is far more ingrained and terrible, and I think it really reflects on the industry as a whole. The HD development model, for both systems, just isn't sustainable. In an industry where few games find success, let alone profits or breaking even, taking a chance on a new IP, on ANY platform...
Again with your selective analysis. Lair and Haze would be poorly received no matter what system they were on, as not only were there severe flaws with the games themselves on a design level, but both were major steps backwards from each studios previous outting. Blaming it instantly on the PS3 is just such a gross dilution of the reality that I can't help but chuckle.
I find it interesting that you, again, have to comment in a PS3 thread when you clearly dislike the system. It's...
Ju brings up a good point. Selective analysis is fun for all.
Don't you guys get sick of this console war crap? Ever?
And Kigmal, the PS2 did not kill the Dreamcast, Sega did, with YEARS upon YEARS of stupid business moves and bad decisions. The Saturn, if anything, killed the Dreamcast.
A poor game is a poor game no matter the console. And as I said above, consumers are fickle. Titles like Viewtiful Joe are never to be seen again, yet we get a 50 Cent sequel...
I was waiting for this gross oversimplification of the situation to hit. Thankfully, the Anti-Sony Force was all over it. Good for them. I assume these pissants also assume that the PS2 is what killed the Dreamcast. Anyways...
The REALITY is, its a dangerous situation for ANY company to risk large amounts of money on ANY new IP on ANY platform. It's also no secret that, all things considered, neither Lair nor Haze were exactly shining examples of amazing game development, as both...
I have to ask Bladestar, why you are so against a movie format, and seem to instantly equate it to some console war mentality. It's a damn movie format. All I see here is people again using an excuse to argue 360/PS3 content. It's pathetic. But if digital distribution is the future, I ask then, what are your solutions to these problems?
- What is your solution to the lack of broadband penetration in many areas of the country? What is your solution to the monopoly many companies s...
Lobster deflecting in some pathetic attempt to defend a piece of hardware is sad. But but but, my friend's old systems did it too!
Guess what, that doesn't validate what is happening now, especially considering Microsoft KNEW about the problem and willingly CHOSE not to fix it.
It has nothing to do with how good a system the 360 is, it has everything to do with screwing consumers. Something NO ONE should stand for.
90% of my friends that have never seen the light agree that the darkness is best.
Whoops, I forgot GTA too. Silly me.
It is. The news said so, and the news never lies.
Morgan, what do you mean? It's not like Devil May Cry, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid or any other series found massive success with the Playstation brand.
Stop being silly.
You're silly.
The original Killzone had its issues, but I still enjoyed playing it. I would still put Black ahead of it though.
*sigh*
Square, stop with this private theatre crap and just show us the goddamn games already.
It's a flaw of two opposing systems clashing. I think the NXE is a great idea, avatars aside, and I love how its integrated into the system. What needs to happen now is more developers need to take it into account when they develop the online components of their games. Yes, cheating happens. But we need to make it harder to do so. Things like Gear's map camera are great ideas to let people watch the action, this just makes it EASIER to exploit than before sadly. A balance is needed.

While I dont like Gamespot, or any professional review site really... I do respect them for this. Not for their choices, but rather for their categories. Instead of just GOTY or other crap, we get things that matter, like best new characters, best bosses, most innovative gameplay, things and reasons that we play games for. I hope more sites start doing this, giving us categories that just mesh better with the hobby.
