WelkinCole,

Right.

That would just be cavalier, if we're keeping it real. Typically, people buy into an ecosystem for the breadth of the games portfolio. Buying a PS5 for one game is just unrealistic.

Stripping away any of the convoluted reasons for buying a console, it's pretty simple:

1. You buy it knowing it'll eventually have the games you want (early adopters).

2. You buy it be...

Doubt it.

Anyone with a PS5 that wanted Helldivers 2 probably has Helldivers 2 on PS5.

Otherwise, I don't see very many people buying a PS5 just to play this game.

I guess we'll see how things shake out. Hulst having a history close to high quality titles is a good place to start, though I can't say I liked the direction of PlayStation in his former role.

Very much taking a wait and see attitude here. It will be difficult to know where Ryan's/Totoki's influence ends and Hulst's/ Nishino's begins, but time will tell whether the new leadership can steer the ship.

However, realistically, I think...

I believe they committed to hardware.

I hate to nitpick, but that's kind of the company they are. You have to.

I mean, maybe? They'll want as much as possible and I figure they could have been hoping for greater impact on PlayStation, but that's good reason to reflect and realize the resources and development cycle of these games aren't very sustainable. The solution is to make more affordable games with shorter dev cycles, then once in a while bring out the big guns.

I think Final Fantasy VII Re make and Rebirth would do really well if it was multiplatform. Specifical...

I mean, we'll have to see.

What I find problematic was Bond really saying that each case for success metrics with different studios is different. However, the studios recently closed seemed surprised when it happened so... Is Microsoft not telling the studios what their expectations are?

It's entirely feasible, but I suspect Starfield didn't really move the needle and Bethesda is safe... But Tango, who made a game that was very well received...

I don't doubt that it's difficult, mate. At the same time, I've lost access to my Plus titles on Playstation since I stopped paying for Plus following the price hike.

But this is exactly their intent and people ought not feed the non-ownership machine. We have to stop giving these corporations this kind of power.

I mentioned this before, but I bought a lot of books on data analysis using SPSS (statistical software from IBM) over the years fo...

1. Why are we talking about PlayStation closing studios? We know they did, but the "they did it too" deflection is such a lazy way to redirect frustration and outrage about what is happening now. We're not talking about Sony, are we? The problem is Microsoft straight up closed studios they've held for less than five years after releasing single projects. And being the cowards they are, they closed Tango when staff was away during Golden Week in Japan.

2. ...

Frankly, I suspect she is the most competent of them. I don't mean that I like her more, I mean that she's the best at articulating herself and giving the talking points MS wants to give. The others are starting to sound more like her than her sounding like any of them.

Are any of these people "responsible" for what's happening? No. This reeks of Nadella. But that being said, I don't see any of the Xbox heads stepping down in protest.

I'm concerned about the consumer culture that seems to be at the front of people's minds these days.

So these studios complete their recent projects and it's like, "thanks, we'll take it from here. Now get out." If this anger is real, people shouldn't even be watching this showcase. When you do, you're basically saying "I'm mad at this, but maybe I can overlook that if you have good games coming."

Whether ...

Letting my hopeless cynic run wild here for a moment...

I think it's entirely possible that they bought the studios knowing games would underperform financially thanks to Game Pass, do they can rationalize closing the studios to the public. As a result, Microsoft keeps the IPs while closing the studios and most of their hangers don't care because "hey, CoD is super cheap now." They now own several of the largest/most popular IPs in the world and they'r...

That would be news to me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

It's not about the talent. It was never about the talent.

It's about Game Pass content and IPs. It is not a coincidence that the people obsessed with AI who recently went on a publisher purchasing spree are closing studios from the publisher we purchased somewhat recently.

Keep going, Microsoft. Keep screwing the labour. You'll answer for it eventually, whether that means...

INMATEofARKHAM,

That's interesting. Didn't know that. Thanks for that clarification.

Can you at least explain your review? I would hope so.

7d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

As a compromise, it would be best to dock some points from a positive review, but clearly state the reasons for it.

So if the game is a 10/10 for you, maybe scale it back to an 8-8.5 and provide rationale that the game is excellent, but you docked points because they did try to make you link your PSN account and have since walked that back. It's saying the game is great, but remind Sony that they could have done even better if they didn't attempt to breach consumer...

-Foxtrot,

I wouldn't say there's support and warmth for them. More than anything, I think people accept that developers are not going to let them go. You're absolutely right in saying it was very much a moment of success, but the point we can make is that there is a right way to do these types of games if they're going to exist.

Live service works best when you have a lower cost of entry and the monetization schemes are very much optional.

For their own sake, don't flood the market with them and put the budget into the gameplay loop, not the visuals and production values.
