The HD Collection on 360/PS3 was the best version of those games. And the best way to play them at the minute seems to be on PC emulators.

That's the problem though. It really shouldn't be an afterthought. PC is the platform where games from all generations can be preserved and never lost. If it's tied only to a specific console, it can be difficult to go back. Take MGS4 for example. The only place you can play it running on hardware is on the PS3. Its native console. But thanks to emulation, you can also now play it on PC.
PC is where games should look the best so they can be so they can be more futureproo...

People aren't as susceptible to scams like this anymore. It was the same when HDMI first came out and some companies tried to charge over £100 for a cable that does the exact same job as a one that at the time was around £15
