A 500k unit launch is unacceptable. Thats 25% of what was originally promised for a launch that's already 6months behind. 100k for Japan? They should be furious. There's no way there'll be 2m units produced by end of year let alone 6m by end of March 2007. This thing was supposed to launch this spring.
I thought I might have a chance to pick one up this year but I'm not that hardcore.
Publishers must be furious as well. Having a splashy launch with 2m units now...
A refreshing read. It would be interesting to see market studies on the current and projected makeup of game purchasing households. Maybe then we'd be able to make some more sense as to the decisions put into each console. I know generally families with children tend to go with what's cheapest. But now we have a generation of generally young parents who are gamers who will not only buy the systems for their children but also for themselves. Whats the makeup of this demographic and is it shift...
I've found a lot of good info at http://forum.blu-ray.com/.
It looks like technically bluray is at least equal if not superior to HD-DVD. But at this stage they can't mass produce the BD50G cheaply enough in quantity for studios to release movies on the format. And the authoring tools aren't there yet. This won't be fixed according to the forums until Q1 2007. But there will be a lot of bluray players on the market by t...
I cant wait to play Schwarzenberg and Root Beer Tapper on my 360.

funny, a 12 month renewal subscription card at best buy is listed at $49. I wonder if the $36 price is for online / auto renewal?
game developers got to where they're at professionally by being sloppy coders? More space on a disc is somehow less? The ps3 can't take advantage of procedural synthesis? Do all 360 games use procedural synthesis... etc etc.
Many people bought ps2's just as DVD players with the added bonus that it was a games machine. The PS3 will be a cheap HD player that also plays games. So how many people will buy the PS3 as a cheap bluray player ? hmmmm ?
$300 gets you in the door, and it may be a valid choice for someone who doesn't want all those extra features. But if you ever want those features, you'll get raked for them. You'd probably want that $40 memory card though. So its really $340. Its a nice system, with that DVD drive and wired controller. You can play with yourself. Now lets say you get bored of that .....
$100 upgrade for 20g drive. Now lets compare that upgraded $440 core to a $500 PS3. Now you've really only ...
Again, the $500 PS3 matches the $400 360. For the extra $100 you get a next gen disc drive which allows 15 - 40G extra space on game discs. You get better free online service than the free online service of the 360. So if its not worth $100 to you to be able to watch HD movies and play games engineered for larger media and have to pay a yearly fee to connect online then its your perogative. Sony is betting that people will pay the extra $100 for that.
Regardless of whether So...
When are you all going to give up on the talking points ? Talking point wash, rinse, repeat.
Sony will have produced 6 million ps3's by March 2007 and I will guarantee that every one of those will be in consumers homes.
well if you read financial reports and such you would know that it is unlikely that Sony will be bankrupt in 2007. Plenty of cash on hand and turning a profit in most recent quarter.
Microsofts Entertainment division however is bleeding to the tune of $1 billion / year and has only turned a profit the quarter that halo2 was released. By your logic its just as valid to speculate a shareholder revolt at Microsoft causing a sell out or close down of the home and entertainment div...
regardless, there will be 6 million bluray players in peoples homes by March 2007 due to PS3 alone. 12-15 million by 12-07. can you say the same for hd-dvd?
There will be 6 million bluray players sold by March 2007. 12 million at least by end of 2007. How many HD DVD players will have been sold by then?
the PS3 20G will by far be the cheaper alternative to 360 + HD DVD. There's no way they'll sell the add on for less than $100. The frikin' wireless adapter is $100. My bet is on $199 maybe $149.
The ps3 20G model is $499 and is closest to the Xbox 360 premium at $399. The PS3 20G matches the 360 premium feature for feature (and then some) and includes the bluray drive. So its $100 more for the inclusion of the bluray drive. "Not interested in HD Movies" you say. Well the bluray drive still provides the benefit of allowing larger media discs for games, 15G extra for single layer BD discs and 40G extra for dual layer. Plus free online included with PS3 will have more features...
supports up to 40 players online. Although insomniac is a 2nd party developer is there that big of a gap between how Sony is treating 2nd party vs 3rd party developers? Can we take what Neversoft is claiming at face value since other devs claim to be supporting online play at launch? It is possible that what they claim is entirely true, just pondering some questions a reporter could follow up on.
