Xbox 360 Price Cut on All SKUs on August 12

GameDaily BIZ has confirmed with a high-level retail source that the 360 will have three separate price drops by August 12. The most popular 20GB Pro SKU will get cut $50, the Elite SKU will get cut $30 and the Core will receive a minimal $20 price drop.

...because they are smart. a price drop is a price drop, no matter how small it is, it is still a true drop compared to what sony did which was just basically the old switcharoo. the ps3 prices are still $500 and $600 and by MS doing this they are essentially saying to Sony: "Its your move byatch"

A console is *supposed* to have a price cut at this time in its life cycle. In fact, 360 is overdue for a price cut. 360 is the console that has lasted the longest without having a price cut.

1) pressure from competition
2)liquidation of old product line to make way for new

If you buy a 360 now, you'll most likely get one which won't be faulty, but I agree the proce drop is pretty poor really, and Europe doesn't get it either which sucks considering the US price is already massively cheaper.

Those leaked photos show an upcoming price cut in Europe. But the story is posted under a ridiculously obscure and irrelevant headline, and so no one has even noticed the news about a price cut in Europe.

Look if the 20 dollar price cut of the Hd-DvD player can boost its sales by 1000% then this will do something.

Again though, it lasted longer then any other system without having a price drop.

a better strategy would be at least $50 price cut for all sku's to coincide with halo 3's elese date will put them in the green. this would also make the core all the closer to being wii ,... i mean consumer friendly

I think this is part one of a two part price cut. From one of the blog entries reported earlier (I know, it's not reliable) I think this is just an inventory clearer, similiar to the Sony price cut. Once that's done, there will be another with the Falcon hardware. Again, just a hunch. I could be way off, but it kind of makes sense.

Core - £15 off

Premium £10 off

Elite - no price reduction instead price goes up....

£330 for the Elite which is based on a NON confirmed price from Microsoft thats $660!!!!!!!!!!! USA only pay $480!!! And even less soon thanks to their price cut!!

So we will pay over $200 more for the Elite!!!

Hoohah! I got my Xbox 360 yesterday. Microsoft finally came to their senses to initiate a price drop after 19 months of waiting.

It wasn't about them coming to their senses. The damn thing has been selling at the price it was at. Why would a company price drop a system that is making sales month after month for almost 2 years? Companies always do a price drop and they do it when it is for certain they need a price drop. The system was not hurting in sales 6 months ago or during 06 xmas.

The PS3 on the other hand is a question of why does a console that has been on the market less then a year already getting a price drop? Becuase of its sales. Fanboy or not that is the truth. This will only help MS as it has helped Sony.

I (and others) won't buy one until Falcon is out.

$50 off does not make up for calling in an RMA, going and shipping out your system, waiting a few gameless weeks to get it back, then receiving a refurbed unit and not your original box back. And who knows how many times you would have to go through that cycle.

They're so close to releasing the new hardware, I have no idea why anyone would go for this. Just wait a few more weeks for 65nm...

i dont know about anybody else but im not running out the door for a $50 dollar price cut, especially a $30 dollar one .... i might be greedy but atleast put it around $100... but since the falcons are going to be cheaper to manufacture, hopefully they will cut the price by $100
