They look better than the slim ones actually. The PS3 Slim would look better vertical on the box art.
It is a good move for Sony, because they really need to revive their image associated with the PS3.
The difference is that beforehand you could get a good Xbox 360 for $100 less than the PS3. Now, they are the same price, even the same colour.

Publishers deny stuff like this all the time, even right before an official announcement. Rockstar will carry on denying until if it ever does get announced by them.

Not really.
The old logo is associated with the PS3s troubled launch and months after that.
The new one is a nice refresh, and looks less hardcore, more family friendly like the Wii.
Actually price is said to be a major factor when consumers are choosing consoles, and value for money is on the PS3s side.
Also they say they have focused on making the slim look good which is totally wrong. If anything, it looks cheaper. They have had to save money on the console production costs. No more gloss, chrome or heat sensitive buttons.
Firmware 3.0 is great for the PSN with more avatars, dynamic themes, and most of all... What's New!
I prefer the look of the phat PS3, but this new model, AND the new price will entice a lot of people.
Wow, at the time they looked like amazing graphics. Now, they look basic in comparison.
Sony will feel less inclined to drop the price in UK by so much (or at all) now which is a shame.
Also, it is unlikely that the Elite will now drop to the now extinct Pro price in the UK, otherwise it would only be an extra £20!
The PlayStation brand is probably Sony's most successful so why would they quit?

$299 for a Slim is absolutely insane.
$299 for a Slim, with GT5 and Uncharted 2 releasing this Xmas would be... speechless.
Fingers-crossed the GT5 releasing this year rumour is true. But even if it isn't, Sony should have a great holiday season :)
Best to wait till Tuesday's conference before buying anything.
