This is great news! Having something to look forward to this fall whether you are an xbox or any fan is exciting; particularly these days.

Strength of the games library.
Cost of entry into “the next gen” is lower with the Series S.

It’s a long game for sure. 15 mil is a great start, and it doesnt yet reflect this incoming gen’s impact on the service. XB Series S will probably be the biggest seller of the two. Being digital only, let’s also assume that nearly all of those new purchasers will try games pass. Let’s say they only increase their subscriber base by another 50% in a year. That’s 22.5 mil X$10 *each month*. Over the span of 7 -10 years, or the length of a console gen, this adds up. Further, these games, a...

Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, who even plays WoW?

People were saying this same stuff about the wii. I don't like iPhone games that much but the sales speak for themselves...

I intend to give it a shot when I have a moment to futz around with it.

I love the spin on this one: game delays make next year even better! We are pretty sure you didn't want those triple A titles before then. TOO CROWDED.

It could be selling better because fighting games have not traditionally done too well on the xb360 anyway. I played the new street fighter on xb360 and after the nostalgia wore off, I've lost all interest in it also. I may consider getting this game for ps3 just because they can still be fun but... As a PS3 owner, I can't help but think its getting picked up so quickly because we don't have that many great choices for titles to begin with. I realize this is changing but... As a gamer and ...

@xino:

This whole post is about my incredibly positive experience with ps3 media server, so I'm already on that page.

my settings for streaming over the wireless are:
keyint=18:vqscale=3:vqmi n=2

Keep in mind this is using 802.11N, but I'm now streaming 1080p content via wireless with no stuttering/audio clipping. Although the picture quality isn't as good as it was via eithernet, its pretty close.

@phosphor112

Thanks for the tip. Those settings were some of the first I actually started playing with once I got everything setup. Streaming 1080p content the ps3 via wireless N with my settings at: keyint=18:vqscale=3:vqmi n=2, but changed the sound to your recommendations. I can't tell a difference, so great tip.

@mooey: yeah, I have a number of friends rocking popcorn hours. I've considered it, and mention it in my blog...

@Family Guy:
Thanks for the input and I've looked at some, but not all of those options. My pc crapped out: dropped down a flight of stairs while being moved. It's older, doesn't boot, and I sold off the cpu's for cash because I'm not even sure what else isn't working on it. I could take the time to fix it, but I have quite a few other functional machines that don't cost me anything but time to work with. I really should have said, "I lost my pc and haven't seen the need to re...

@mc187: thanks for the support man! So long as people are finding them at all informative, I'll try to keep doing them.

I realize that. I'm also running a mac.

@phosphor112: Thanks for the advice. I actually just wrote up a review on my experiences with ps3 media center. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for. That blog post should be coming shortly, but its likely all stuff that you already know :)

@hoo - I was considering getting that adapter. If I do, I'll definitely share my thoughts. Thanks for the feedback!

I wanted to thank all the people making comments. For those who have offered assistance and perspective on the fat32/hfs+ dilemma I face, thanks for that as well. I've considered going fat32 but its simply an archaic file system and I most certainly access files that are nearly all larger than 4 gig. I have found a number of alternatives, they just aren't simple. I'd very much like to see support for HFS+, not only does it allow these types of drives hooked up, but it allows for users wit...

I know its possible to do, its simply that I want the drive completely usable on my mac/linux boxes, in addition to being able to use it on the ps3. I realize if I were running a windows box that'd be much more simple. I just like to keep things complex and confusing :)

@Ace Pheonix: most of the content I'm concerned with watching is *over* 4.7 gigs. We're talking anywhere between 4.5-10 gig h264.mkv's, and some hd-wmv's. Also, I have no PC's at home/work. I use mac/linux almost exclusively, so fat32 doesn't always play nicely with those boxes. Thanks for the input though, I've seriously considered it. I've recently found some software that runs natively on the mac that will transcode/stream the mkv's on the fly to the ps3, and I may blog about that nex...
