This article mentions using the USB port for adding more drives. I don't recall seeing the option of using external drives ever being discussed.
I have the original 60GB PS3 model and I upgraded to 750GB a few years ago. I ended up having this same issue. Before I realized that this was a widespread issue I just decided to re-format and now it works fine. I now have to re-download any games I had installed which sucks, but all of my game saves were in the cloud.
This game went from a day 1 purchase to me waiting for it to hit the bargain bin (used). Come September I won't care about this game. What really sucks is that this game is the reason I bought a Wii U when I did. Gamestop had the demo for this game on their kiosk and told me about it being exclusive and coming out in Feb. If it wasn't for that I would have waited until after E3 to see if there would be a price drop.

It must be a slow news day. How do stupid articles like this get approved? I'm not a negative person, but who cares what one person thinks about these franchises? Anyone with half a brain already knows which franchises will re-appear next gen. It isn't rocket science. If it continues to be profitable, you will more than likely keep seeing the franchise. I mean come on, Halo and Call of Duty for example will be around for the foreseeable future.
My predictions: Nintendo: Re-announces Wii-U but it gets renamed. They show off some titles, but we are still left feeling underwhelmed. 3DS announces a few new titles.
Microsoft: Focus will be on how well the 360 has been selling, new Kinect titles are shown, and they focus on Halo 4. They also bring out Rockstar to debut GTA V and announce exclusive content.
Sony: Focus will be on the Vita this year and they will impress everyone with the new ti...

They open the boxes for every new game they sell which I don't agree with. I realize they don't have the floor space to keep every boxed copy, but they could keep out 1 display and pull the rest from the back. When I bought Yakuza 3 "new" it didn't have a manual yet they claim it's new. I guess they can remove any content they feel like. Our only option is to shop elsewhere, which I plan on doing.
I don't normally agree with Patcher, but this time I think he may be right and it worries me. The reason being is that to me Sony now represents more of the hard core gaming market. The Wii, and now the 360 with Kinect, have been focusing more on the casual gamers.
In the end it's all about money and if devs find it more profitable to develop casual games, the hard core games may decrease.

For those that don't agree with IGN, Giant Bomb gave it the same score. Be prepared for this game to disappoint. Also, a 4 to 6 hour campaign is pretty weak. Hopefully COD will be better.
If it had real time save, or a better save game system it would score an 8 in my book, but the save game system sucks and therefore it drops to a 6 and a rental for me.
That is very possible. Worse case would be that people won't update their PS3 and then just keep it offline. Buy another PS3 for online if desired for the cost of 5 retail games. I'm not saying that is a smart move, I'm just saying I know people will do it.
There is no chance that Sony will stop this. It will come out in some form and will be free as the article states.
Wonder if my phenom II X6 1055t w/ ATI 5870 will be able to play this on max settings? I hope so.
After playing the 360 demo I wouldn't buy that version either. Just standing in the house and moving left and right results in screen tearing. The PC version on the other hand is awesome. I'm using an ATI 5870, so it looks great even without Nvidia Physx technology.
I played this demo on 360, PS3, and PC (Phenom II X6 1055t, ATI 5870, 8GB RAM), and the PC verson blew away the consoles. Even just standing in the house and moving left and right has really bad screen tearing on the console versions. I'll definitely buy this for the PC, but I'm starting to wonder if I should have went with NVIDIA instead. It seems like the Physx technology makes an even greater improvement.
I love 3D movies, and I think games would be cool in 3D although I've never played one. My problem is that I have all new HD TVs in my home that I expected to last for many years when I bought them. One of these includes a HD projector. I just can't see myself buying all new equipment along with glasses for everyone. I think a lot of other people will be in that same situation which is why I think 3D will not take off just yet. Once glasses are not needed that may be a different ...
I signed up for a year plus the 3 months free. After the first day I'm already ahead by $4. So far I'm happy with it.
So something they still haven't addressed - What if you are already a Qore subscriber? Apparently that doesn't account for anything.
Seeing as how they are saving most of the system resources for games, I won't be picky about the interface. I do however like XMB better.
