Well according to the article the FTC didn't even ask the question.
This is MS saying to the FTC that they have to prove that COD is a multi million $ franchise, as they don't know how much it makes in revenue.
MS are getting desperate, they're grasping at straws.
Edit if you read the tweet as well (power phrasing)
FTC - COD was released in 2003 and is an annual release and it is a key product
...
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
But there is a thing called Google.
They would tell you, and it's free.
"the series line definitely had a successful sales year."
MS need to be told this, as they're claiming they can't compete unless they own COD.
@orchid
"one includes $60-70 games day 1, the other doesn't."
How many released in 2022? If there was 5/6 new titles a year sure.
But value is subjective, and bare in mind the £70 is to own the game not rent it, which is essentially what you're doing with Game Pass.
@madlad
"Take one of your studios and make something brilliant then"
Can the same argument not be made for MS?
What you have to understand is that Sony know their studios strengths, and right now it isn't multiplayer, hence why they bought Bungie.
COD is a yearly game that players buy in the millions every year.
Sony not only get a cut of that, they also get millions of subs to plus. ...
"Because I’m American "
I'm shocked.
But as I pointed out, this is a world wide sales article.
Hope this helps.
He said under 200, is that under 200?
And considering this is world wide sales why have you limited it to just $?
And UK and Europe..The same that *checks notes* just had a PS5 price increase?
Keep reaching.
Under £200
https://www.smythstoys.com/...
But has been selling higher than Xbox consistently for a whole year.
Not just when it's lower spec version is £200.
But we know the other two have been in higher demand all year. Not just on Black Friday.
12 days ago some people thought the Xbox had turned a corner. It was pointed out that the great sales numbers where probably down to the Series S being stupidly cheap and casuals probably jumping on board.
These estimates show that was most likely a correct theory.
To go from estimated 1.2m to estimated less than 600k is really big drop.
They're estimates sure, but I can't see them being too far off.
The one thing all of these "well Sony buy.timed exclusives" arguments forget.
Is that it's a free market.
Before any agreement is signed MS and Nintendo have the exact same chance of brokering a deal.
Look at COD, during the 7th gen, COD was Xbox, MS used their lead to gain market share and get deals, even got GTA4 DLC locked down first.
They also got some great IPs onto their console both exclusive and ...
@lifetime
"They payed for final fantasy to be exclusive even though it was a Nintendo franchise"
No they didn't, Square decided to jump ship due to the PS1 being a better fit for FF7 with it's CDs over carts.
Then the relationship blossomed from there.
"That's why they willingly accept these prices increases from Sony without any complaints."
Hmmm and yet TLOU part 1 sales were pretty poor.
Almost as if people haven't accepted the price increase and have complained by not buying the game.
Personally I will pay it on a game by game basis, I've bought four games at launch, Demon Souls, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and God of War Ragnarok....
"Sony have NEVER taken away a multi-platform franchise away from a competitor."
Hmmm Street Fighter might had been multiplat.
However your point is still valid, the point is, Sony funding a game they don't own the IP for is down to the publishers choice, and there would have been nothing stopping MS stepping in.
And that's the point. The publisher can choose to make a deal, and that's where the competition is. ...
@orchid
S2 could be right, my dad, who isn't a big gamer picked up an S simply due to its price.
Any gamer would be going for the X.
We will see how the sales go next week, if they're still 1m+ then maybe there is a bigger demand.
If it drops off to 600k or less then that just proves that S2's theory is a solid one.
Not sure why you think that everyone thinks HZD is a masterpiece, I've not seen a single comment make such a claim.
As it was built with the PS4 in mind, then sure.
However, we were told that having an SSD would change how a game is designed, meaning you would be able to eventually design a game that NEEDs and SSD and would not be possible on a system without one.
God of War isn't that game.
You could even argue Ratchet and Clank isn't that game, and would still be possible (with heavy tweeking) on PS4.
What we don't kn...
Orchard do you not know the difference between a publisher and a studio?
Your argument falls down when you see that Sony have published plenty of highly rated and successful games, consistently, with more hits than misses (this is not to say it's a perfect record)
Can the same be said for MS? Especially lately they have had more misses than hits.
