Apparently the last 10 years wasn't enough to get the gaming press to notice but as soon as they touch Bethesda it is full on nuclear war. A lot of people in the gaming press seem to have this irrational hard on for Fallout and Skyrim despite the fact they are low quality poor buggy games.

The problem is whether it is Gold or Game Pass or any similar service they all become stagnant and run out of stuff you give you. It was a foolish thing in the first place. The best model is the one that has been around since the start, buy the games you actually want to own and play. What is amazing is how Microsoft bombarded the gaming press with positive Game Pass articles to try clearly manipulate people into using it. It was quite something. In the end it wasn't enough as most people were smart enough to see through it. In these hard economic times the shine has started to come off Subscription Services. People know what they are losing.

That has basically been the plan all along. Quite frankly people in the gaming press have been cheering this along as most of them don't care about games or consumer rights, gaming journalism is just a short bridge for them to move onto something better.
