The industry has tied itself down with all sorts of things when it comes to the distribution of games, particularly on a global level.
The indie devs don't have the time or the resources to deal with that.

Spend less time monkeying it up with DLC out the yin yang and more time making a quality game next time. The fact that they intended to run the series on until it ran in to the ground doesn't help either.
I don't like sports games or most FPS games so therefore I don't play them.

I'm more concerned with people heaping praise on games that, while good, have plenty of glaring flaws. Flaws that when present in another title from a genre the reviewer might not care for, get beaten in to the ground.

I'm guessing the 360 coming out barely 4 years after the Xbox wasn't "too soon". Six years is also roughly the gap between the PS2 and the PS3. 5 years between PS1 and PS2.
