Does graphics even have anything to do w/ being hardcore? I'd consider Doom 1 to be more hardcore than Viva Piñata or LittleBigPlanet.

Care to explain to everyone what high-end "processes" ur talkin about which the Wii apparently can't do but that the 360 and PS3 can? I know of some, but I just wanna make sure ur not just making stuff up. Feel free to research if need be.

I agree that in this day and age, online multiplayer should be standard on a console. However, the reason this is news is because the Wii's online multiplayer functionality hasn't been fully fleshed out yet. A year from now, a game having online multiplayer capabilities on the Wii will not be as big of a deal as it is right now.

If the DVD-enabled Wii is released in the future, I think it'll just be a way to re-ignite Wii sales. I honestly don't believe anyone who already ha...

Well, it's always nice to see innovation in the game-development dept. lol

"Sonic the Hedgehog" was only released for the 360 and PS3. "Sonic and the Secret Rings" was a completely different game released for the Wii which apparently was actually fairly decent.

How is it that almost two years after release, the 360 is still having so many hardware issues that MS is still enhancing its warranty service? Lucky for them, the videogame scene is bursting with fanboyism and they've developed a strong following. I don't think reliability issues like this would fly in many other industries.

This is exactly the kind of thinking that Sony and MS have perpetuated in the minds of consumers in order to sell their respective consoles. The fact of the matter is, the Wii hardware is more than capable of delivering great games unless u base a game's greatness solely on graphics and overly-robust AI algorithms (which, ironically, most MS and Sony fanboys will never take notice of cuz they're too distracted by pretty pictures). The Wii hardware is already capable of online play, so that ...

April Fools?

By "Mario game", do u mean specifically Mario platforming adventure games or just games w/ Mario in them? Just because the character Mario is common to a variety of games doesn't mean that they're all the same old Mario game. Super Mario Strikers, Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. all have Mario in them but are completely different kinds of games. I can understand if ur sick of seeing Mario himself as a character.

But even the Mar...

The element of speed that made Sonic popular in the first place doesn't blend well with complete 3D movement. If I have to worry about not falling off the side of a bridge while I'm zooming across it, I'm not gonna wanna go fast. Secret Rings seems to be a step in the right direction. Keeping Sonic on rails'll allow the games to stay fast-paced.

MS wouldn't be a major player in the videogame industry these days if it weren't for the Dreamcast. MS developed many of the devtools for the console and the Dreamcast even sports a Windows logo on it.

I still bust it out every so often to play Virtua Tennis, Metropolis Street Racer (which went on to become the Project Gotham series), Virtua Fighter 3, and Virtual-On.

Great console, great games, bad timing.

If this isn't a late April Fool's joke, I hope the game comes as a pleasant surprise given Sonic Team's generally lackluster reputation lately and the fact that Yuji Naka is no longer involved in the series. But Sonic Team's Secret Rings was apparently pretty good (I haven't played it yet) and Yuji Naka's role was probably a lot more important in developing the initial concept of the game series, which has already been established.

Yes, the primary function of a game console is to play games. And given the 360's much higher hardware-failure rate, some 360s can't even do that reliably. So MS shouldn't talk limited functionality when so many 360s become duds w/ ZERO functionality.

Yes, NiGHTS was an amazing game. And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it come w/ the very first analog controller?

I'll wait til after April Fool's to decide whether these screenshots are real or not tho hehe.

Ya I think Nintendo could be selling way more Wiis if they hadn't underestimated the demand for it. Apparently, Nintendo has only had one manufacturer of the product, which is why they're so hard to find. And now I'm hearing news that Nintendo's finally seeking out more manufacturers to produce Wiis to meet the demand? They should've done that a month or two ago. If people have to go out of their way to get a Wii, many will just lose interest.

I think it's ridiculous for Ga...

While this seems to be a crack at many of the Wii's games looking comical and non-realistic, I think the reality is that the Wii's control scheme appeals to anyone who doesn't wanna deal w/ what's become known as the typical controller, regardless of age. Let's face it, it's a lot more fun and intuitive to swing the Wii remote in a tennis game than it is to press a button. Anyone who's never played videogames before is not gonna pick up a PS3 or Xbox360 controller and feel comfortable or im...

"Extremely poor limitations" is a little harsh, don't u think? What exactly are these limitations that would hinder a NiGHTS sequel on the Wii? If you're referring to graphics, the artistic style of the original NiGHTS was never dependent upon photorealism. I think the Wii is more than capable of rendering the type of graphics that would suit a NiGHTS sequel, and that the artistic style of NiGHTS is actually a better fit for the console than either the PS3 or Xbox360. I'm more i...

This shows that one upside of having hardware limitations is that it sometimes forces developers to come up w/ more efficient algorithms or different ways of accomplishing things programmatically. In terms of graphics, more polygons doesn't always mean better 3D. Things like texture maps, shading, and mipmapping produce far better results than just maxing out polygon count. It's refreshing to see this kind of innovation in the videogame industry.

Hopefully these numbers attract much more 3rd-party development. The top story at N4G right now states that the Xbox360's sold over 10 million units to date while the Wii has sold over 6 million in 4 months? That'd probably worry me if I were a Microsoft or Sony exec.

The president of Totally Games, who is making Alien Syndrome, said this w/ regard to graphics:

"A number of graphics enhancements and additional animations will also be made for the Wii version... The game's level design takes full advantage of the crisp, beautiful widescreen display of the PSP to create stunning environments the likes of which have not been seen on a handheld before."

Pretty vague if u ask me. One thing's for sure, screenshots don't c...

Not only is the link incorrect, but the screenshots posted by CVG for Alien Syndrome seem incorrect. One of the screenshots shows controls for PS/PS2/PS3. See for yourself:
