Awesome - gotta love wireless connections...and Aussies (but then again I'm biased). GiFi sounds like a good name - just need to pronounce it as "jiffy" and you have something descriptive as well!

I'm quite sure that a prerequisite to the "death" of a format is some type of decline - Although NPD figures suggest this may be occurring (since boxed sales are down by $60mil) I really don't think this is the case.
$60 million isn't really that much; to put it into perspective it is equal to:
-15days worth of WoW (8mil users * $15 * 1/2 a month = $60mil)
-34¢ from Steam's 15million users each month for a year ($0.34 * 12 months * 15million people = $61.2mil)...

and I *need* plugins!!
I was always lead to believe that Firefox was a lot more secure and anecdotally spybot/adaware have tended to show up more bugs in IE comps compared to firefox ones.

As for Vista I don't think it's intrinsically bad, its just that people weigh up the pro's (nicer looking interface, dx10, supports 4gb of ram) and cons (fewer fps' in gaming, uses more resources) and decide that it isn't really worth paying the upgrade cost. This probably sounds a bit si...

I don't disagree that it was a bad idea to give the ps3 port to EA, but I think we do need to take into account that Valve do tend to be quite slow at developing games (I mean really slow - it took a few years each for the 8hr episodes to be developed and 2.5 years for portal and both were made for an existing engine).

I'm not saying this is a bad thing (although it is frustrating at times, valve have produced some very polished kickass innovative games and I love them for it) b...

yeah, high school physics tells me that for the water to heat up it needs to get energy from somewhere (ie the CPU), there is effectively a transfer of energy form CPU->water coolant

Yeah the new maps will also be on PC, if IW don't do it then we'll be seeing a community made port (which should be easy enough considering how similar the xbox version is)...or perhaps we already have them- maybe IW are just planning to shift a couple of maps from the last few patches to console.

I haven't owned a nintendo since the SNES and have been a PC-man since then, but I must say he has a point - all the improvements in the other systems (PC included) have been evolutionary rather than revolutionary, there have barely been any non-graphical changes since last gen (sure there's the odd exception such as portal...and maybe assassins creed if it worked, but largely the industry has just been making subtle changes to the last gen - cod4, halo3, halflife2 ep2 etc). I really hope tha...

I don't mind the Italian Job suggestion - just imagine Hitman style gameplay with different objectives and a few of those awesome mini-cooper driving scenes for good measure! They'll probably still screw it up though, movie games FTL!!

I think what we really need is a video game adaptation of Citizen Kane, just so we can 'prove' the artistic merit of the platform - all the film goers will love it ;)

there were 5 games for ps3, 5 for 360 and 4 for the PC, I'm not sure how this translates to PC-centricism but whatever, its just an opinion anyway.

I did it in team fortress 2 when I first set up my new comp - I wanted to see what type of ping I was gonna get on my newly set up wireless network and wanted a decent look at some of high res textures on my new rig. Deliberately went on a Gravlepit server for the occasion, just so I could finally get the "impenetrable defence" achievement (I figured there's no legit way to get it on a balanced, populated server)

The DS2 and PSP2 I guess (or whatever they decide to call them). The n4g title is misleading - the article said "2010 is also likely to coincide with the end of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP cycles.", cycles being the key word methinks.

@whengeeksgobad - the problem I have with all the 'PC is Dying' "news" stories is they generally all cite falling sales numbers without mention digital distribution systems and generally present a very one-sided argument. If you can link me a good one that presents both sides of the coin, I'll be more than happy to read it.

@Gorgon - why do you own a high end pc? I'm sure therein lies the reason as to why the pc isn't dying.

The PC is still a valid platform...

"[PC games sale figures]don't include ad revenue associated with online gaming Web sites, which offer "casual" games such as Poker or Scrabble to a wider set of game players.

They also don't include revenue from monthly subscriptions to virtual worlds known as "massively multiplayer online" games, or MMOs. Those games include World of Warcraft, which has 10 million subscribers worldwide, and are big hits in countries such as China and South Korea. And the...

I think Dofus runs in flash, but yea, the more commercial ones tend to have their own engines

I built a new comp on Monday and I just copied my entire steam folder from my old HDD to my new one. I have a healthy collection of games/mods in it (~25gb) and it only took a few minutes to copy - a lot quicker than it would have been to reinstall an equivalent number of games from CD.

Add this to a few mods and we might get a game out of this engine yet!!

The first 1/2 of the article is good - Futuremark products always look awesome, hopefully they're games will look equally impressive.

I though they were a bit off with the 2nd 1/2 though; they really should have taken into account that crysis selling 1million units =\= failure.

I think the dreamcast was underrated - it did have some pretty awesome games
