Looks like some old test code made it into the beta, so that some of you using ad block were greeted in a VERY inappropriate manner. This was of course not meant to be a new "feature" so we apologize for that.
We will probably set the list view as default for mobile. There is a lot of stuff we have not had time to do go over yet. This is why we do this beta period, to collect user behavior data so we can sort all this out before we launch.
We have not fully optimized for mobile yet, so there are still some bugs. We should have all this sorted in a few days. Try set to link view to see more stories.
If you had read the actual post you would have known that you can change the layout and set it the way you like.
On mobile click in the screen icon right of pending and you can change the layout to show many more stories.
You will be able to save the settings you like the most to your account (at the moment its just saved with cookies) so you won't have to set it up more than once. The default view will be what works best for new users, so we need more data to find out which layout that would be.

It is different but if you give it a chance it has many advantages over the list view. But we will bring back the list view soon as an option for those who prefer...

Thanks for the honest feedback guys. This first stage of the update was first of all to test the new navigation. As for the design and layout, I fully agree that we can do things to make it less noisy. We have already removed the top ad on the home page for all members and we will continue to make improvements. I am confident that in 2-3 weeks we will have a site we all can live with :)

We are working on it. Should be removed shortly.
I understand it can take some time to get used to the new look. But this update is about site navigation which I believe is a lot more powerful now. So make sure to also test out the new menu system :)
Members cannot directly affect the trust rank of other members, so that won't be a problem.
