Decent article with a decent prediction, but it's too early.
The problem with "obvious" GOTY candidates is the hype associated with those games causes ridiculously inflated expectations that aren't met when the game comes out.
There have been games that have been rated lower than they should have been with no solid, objective reason given, but simply because they didn't "live up to the hype".

A lot of what Sony has done in the last 2 years has to do with offsetting costs/profit-losses associated with the PS3.
1 - They removed backwards compatibility on the ps3
2 - The newer 40/80gb models have more issues (bluray drive failures, bluetooth transmitter problems, overheating, hanging, etc, google it)
3 - They are pushing ps2 sales, because the system is cheap for them to manufacture and makes them the most profit at this point.

This is coming from someone who had 2 iPhone 3G's, and currently owns 2 PSP's (silver psp-2000 daxter bundle) and a Nintendo DS:
The iPhone is a great media device, plays movies, looks nice, doesn't weigh a lot, has a decent amount of space for a small music collection. But.. it sucks as a phone (calls keep dropping when phone switches from 3G to Edge network) and it will never be a good gaming device (touch screen for gaming = FAIL).

I think the statement on the blog pretty much sums it up.
Competition is great, especially when it's two exclusives going at it. Both look amazing and are at the cutting edge.
Forza 3 is better hands down, and we all know that with the current trend of NFS games (as in they all have sucked), chances are more than certain that Forza 3 is going to be second only to GT5 if not better.
