It may seem a bit off the wall to say this but one of the most impressive things for me that made me say holy $h!t were the moments where the screen blacks out and your character is in shadow. I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 2.
The first game for me anyway fell into the trap (this is just my personal take on it) of the developers spending all there time and resources in crafting a beautiful and detailed world (toybox if you will) for us to play in.
Then somehow they forgot to put varied and interesting gameplay in there. Hence the game became very repetitive and monotonous.

I am currently playing this.
In parts this game does indeed truly look like a painting come to life. The visuals are breathtaking just pipping UC2 in my opinion. The musical score is wonderful and the fluidity and break-neck speed of combat are unsurpassed. The sheer amount of technical whizz bangery and stuff going on the screen is mind blowing at times.
However, i feel unfortunately there are a few miss-steps along the way.

Got the game yesterday (UK). Yes the hype about the visuals is true.
The game looks absolutely stunning and the whole thing runs smooth as silk at a ferocious pace.
However i have one rather annoying gripe. I am finding the controls somewhat cumbersome when trying to double jump using the wings over ravines. It is somewhat unnecessarily fiddly and has led to countless deaths. I guess given more play time i will get used to it.
