It's likely an intermittent measure so that people can at least enjoy stable performance again until they fix the optimisation a bit. I'd imagine the next patch won't be too far in the future and will give us the resolution options back, but with stable performance to match.

TLOU may not be a new game, but it's a major showcase title for the Pro nonetheless so I'd imagine Sony are adamant about it running and looking great.

@Ju Digital Foundry ran the numbers. TLoU (1.07) runs worse on the Pro than it does on the base PS4.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

"The Last of Us on PS4 Pro runs worse than the standard PS4 model while targeting 60fps. With the resolution set to 1800p in its 60fps mode on PS4 Pro, we see frame-rate drops in places that played out smoothly on the original machine. "

It's a big deal if you just paid £350 for the privilege of getting a game that runs worse.

And you also have to consider where those drops happen i.e. not when the game was already dropping frames, but when the original was running at a stable 60. Factor in the fact that the game is V-synced so drops that cut below it manifest as judder and you have a downgrade that's discernible to the average person. It's not like the game is going from 47fps to 45fps (no...

Honestly, it sounds like are simply rolling back/undoing the damage of the previous patch for now until they have something to sorts out the deflated performance on the Pro. Pretty sure we'll see a 1.09 patch that reinstates these features, this time with more stable performance.

It's odd we aren't seeing a flurry of reviews all at once. Are some sites breaking embargo? Or reviewing copies received by alternate means?

This isn't that unusual for certain Japanese releases. Persona 5 and Yakuza: Ishin are the same (IIRC the feature unlocks once you complete those games).

But it is an Audi last time I checked. Square Enix even had a deal with Audi and everything.

"So the author of this tripe thinks PC people thinks everyone sucks who plays consoles. Nope. It's control scheme."

Actually, that's exactly the charge PC gamers will often level. It's not even limited to input device, but everything with associated with it as well (game speed, aim assist etc).

The basic criticism is that console players are not skilled and that the controller merely covers up their inadequacies. That they can't ...

TBH I don't find the reboot Lara a convincing character at all for the most part, especially compared to the Lara in the CD trilogy that proceeded those games. Sure, the new Lara is less of a super-hero, but she ultimately does all the same things the old one does, albeit with some more cuts and bruises to show for it (and that fact that she succeeds nonetheless is all the less believable for it).

I'm not sure if it is the writing or the voice acting but she is horr...

It's a shame then that it looks like Eidos Montreal will be handling the next one as they too have strong game design, but weak writing. I'd imagine the next TR will be good, but it will likely be good in all the same ways and bad in all the same ways.

@Shin-Zantetsuken: TLoU sold well recently because it is one of the prominently marketed 4k/PS Pro compatible games -- its sales are largely the result of the PS4 Pro launch.

WoFF might have fared better if this month wasn't packed to the rafters with massively marketed AAA titles and upstaged by a new console launch. That, and FFXV is only a stone's throw away so those with limited money are almost certainly going to get FFXV if they can only afford one or the othe...

That's a lot of games. But the problem is the type of games they are.

When people think of JRPGs they are talking about story-driven single-player games. That is to say, in terms of meaningful classification, these are arguably not of the same genre (many are co-op/hunting games, and Disgaea is normally classed as an SRPG).

That is to say that, most won't consider the bulk of those JRPGs, or at least, not the kind they are interested in playing. ...

Can you name one good JRPG that's out for the PS4? I can hardly think of any RPGs at all, and the few I can are either remasters or simply weren't very good (Star Ocean comes to mind).

There are other differences than resolution that can be compared.

And you can also still do a comparison of the resolution difference in limited form by expanding the images to full size and comparing the zoomed in images against each other to see how they hold up under scrutiny.

It's not quite the same as actually seeing them on a 4K display, but it's still a point of reference of sorts.

@Irishguy95 I guess because the vast majority of gamers don't like turn based strategy.

I think the problem is that most of the FF games (and most turn-based JRPGs in general) aren't actually turn-based strategy: they are routine selection exercises that require little thought AND little input from the player -- the result is un-engaging.

This is particularly bad with most of the FF games as they use ATB -- a system that has (now that I've pla...

That sounds like a problem of compatibility of HDMI and HDCP standards where everything in the chain from the TV, the AVR it is connected to and even the cables could be contributing, in addition to the PS4 Pro itself.

I've actually had this exact same issue with the PS4 Slim when using it through a switch box, but hooking it directly to the TV sorted the issue.

Good to see consumers both united in recognising this a problem and urging a solution.

As for the haters, if you derive joy from other people having a compromised experience, you are a shit. That is all.

Would be nice if more TV manufacturers also considered making panels that work well for gaming.

And on that note, where is Freesync in TVs? Heck, why hasn't Sony at least made their own version of it to work between Sony TVs and PlayStation 4?

Trump treats women like trash and the people elect him *shrugs*. In a culture where treating women like crap is the norm I see nothing out of the ordinary with that.
