Exactly. It just doesn't pay off to buy games relatively soon anymore, let alone at launch. The last game I bought at launch was MGS5 The Phantom Pain and that was just because I wanted the collector's edition with the replica of Snake's bionic arm (and from what I've read, the Blu-Ray that comes with that edition features additional content that isn't in the full game, so that is another benefit).
It feels so much better to just wait about a year or so ...

FF VII and FFIX were not snubbed, yet VIII has been? Maybe it's because VIII is the red headed step child of the PSOne FF trilogy (and deservedly so). Final Fantasy VIII just never hooked me in, but that could be because VII was such a momentous act to follow...but then again, I really enjoyed IX.
8 was just a let down and demand for a simple re-release is just relatively low.

Here is just one quick example: back when Sony first announced PlayStation VR, Xbox fan Bots immediately said that VR is just a fad no one cares about VR and such... but when Microsoft announced Oculus Rift support for the Xbox One, all those same fanboys proclaimed that as a killer feature for the system.
