Final Fantasy XIII Famitsu Review Leaked Early

FinalFantasy-XIII.net: It looks like Famitsu's review of Final Fantasy XIII has been leaked early in Hong Kong. Famitsu is reprinted and released in many countries across Asia but for some reason a Hong Kongese forum has the Japanese review scores before everyone else.

39/40?

Good score, if real.

The guy who gave it a 9 seemed to imply that battles can get a bit too manic that its difficult to tell how much damage u've caused.. i can see that be somewhat annoying.

oh well, cant wait for this to release thats for sure!

Simon_Brezhnev5256d ago (Edited 5256d ago )

lol i really doubt bayonetta(Bujingai rip off) is better then ffx13

edit:

whats funny is some sites thats giving Bayonetta high scores gave low scores to Bujingai

http://www.metacritic.com/g...

Sevir045256d ago

Just what i was thinking. he also said that the game features some lack luster settings.. as do most games now a days... I guess they loved the the 360 version of Bayonnetta More... LOL!!! we shall see. I'm sure this game will be awesome though. it's one of my sure purchases out of the March rush... This and Battlefield bad company.

kratos1235256d ago

dude you played buijnga that game was sweet but really short bubbels fore you

Chris3995256d ago

Picked that game up used for like $10 a couple of years back. Money well spent. Having no foreknowledge of the game, I was pleasantly surprised by my purchase.

bacon135256d ago

This is one of those games that reviews are irrelevant. It's been in development for so long and everyone knows it will be a AAA title when it debuts. And yes Bujingai was a sweet game. Multi-Hundred aerial combos FTW.

fishd5256d ago

HOLY SH!T DUDE!!!1oneone

You guys played Bujingai??!!!

*Mind blown*

Noctis Aftermath5256d ago

Google translate strikes again?

Even thought it's only rumor at this stage, it still was what i expected because giving a 40/40 to Final Fantasy would just be to obvious.

Christopher5256d ago

So... not as good as Bayonetta?

Vivi5256d ago

As I posted earliers.

This is what Famitsu have scored every FF title.

XII: 40/40
XI: 38/40
X: 39/40
IX: 38/40
VIII: 37/40
VII: 38/40
VI: 37/40
V: 15th best game of all time (no score)
IV: 54/60
III: 36/40
I & II: No scores

Why do people still trust them with all the fail reviews?

Heck they think XII is the best FF.....

WildArmed5256d ago

Bujingai was a very good game.
Tons of action.. tons of..
oh who am I kidding.. the game got boring too fast lol

The Great Melon5256d ago (Edited 5256d ago )

So much Bujingai love. I thought I was one of the few that ever played that game. It may have been a bit repetitive, but I loved the ridiculous combos that you could get going.

ceedubya95256d ago

Bayonetta is an action game.

FFXIII is an RPG.

Lets not compare games of different genres to each other. Its not really a good comparison. One may have possibly gotten 1 point more than the other, but the games are so different.

Compare Bayonetta to DMC4, or Ninja Gaiden 2/Sigma 2.

Compare FFXIII to Lost Odyssey.

How do these games compare in score to other popular games within the genre?

ilikecookies5256d ago (Edited 5256d ago )

@ 1.9 and those are all good scores are they not? or are they not good enough for you? must they be 40/40 50/50 or w.e they are? Those seem like great scores to me. And for 12 being the best one, to each his own opinion. Just cause you don't like 12 doesn't mean they don't have to.

FF13 is going to be Epic....I literally bought a PS3 just for FF13 (personally I feel that FF should be played on PS and that's final).

Saaking5256d ago

Another 40 would have been way too much. Famitsu has been very generous with their perfect scores lately.

iamtehpwn5256d ago (Edited 5256d ago )

Can't wait till I get this at the end of next week.

Honestly, the lack of Kimi ga iru kara in the US version made me import. Not to mention, I didn't want to wait much longer.

Method5256d ago

Everyone knows Versus XIII will be the superior game.

Pozzle5256d ago

Famitsu has a habit of giving JRPGs high scores, regardless of whether they are crap or not. So it's nice to know that they didn't just give FFXIII a perfect score simply because it's a JRPG and an FF game.

ThanatosDMC5256d ago

FF12 was 40/40??? Wow, they completely missed the mark... I cant stand the game since the story doesnt wrap you up together properly.

Skip_Bayless5255d ago

If it was PS3 exclusive it would be 40/40. I ain't buying it.

Megaton5255d ago

Famitsu registers pretty low on my review radar. They loved The Last Remnant and Haze. Hell, they gave Nintendogs a 40/40.

Sarcasm5255d ago

Who honestly cares what Famitsu thinks after their Haze review.

starvinbull5255d ago

I like how they all say it's gorgeous and the amount of visual, aural splendor is overwhelming.

cboy5255d ago (Edited 5255d ago )

I don't know whose ass they pulled that translation out from but it's totally made up BS.
It should look something like this (Take the second reviewer for instance):

"9/10
Top of the line cutscenes and movies hands down. With realtime Optima switching, the battle system is a blast allowing you to use loads of abilities and magic at the same time. Overall a very well polished game but feels rather linear until later in the game. The game also takes a while to get interesting."

Or something along those lines. As you can see from the original post, there is no mentioning of "battle damage being difficult to see, and the screen being cluttered," nor any judgment on the game being not "RPG-like RPG".

The other reviews are just about as inaccurate and I strongly suggest someone to have a look at the original reviews and perhaps re-translate the article again before the wrong information gets further spread.

Fishy Fingers5256d ago (Edited 5256d ago )

Should be marked as rumour at the moment.

"Although it hasn't been confirmed it looks like the games been given a score of 39/40."

FishCake9T45256d ago

Ehhhh I'll wait to they release it officialy.

chidori6665256d ago

famitsu died after the review of haze ( 35/35)

today her opinion does not count anymore.

Somnus5256d ago

Haze got 34/40 actually. They've never reviewed a game out of 40.

Vincent VII5256d ago

Famitsu Review bayonetta :40/40

lol Famitsu nothing but peeping toms.

GrandDragon5256d ago

Such a BIG LIE

Famitsu did NOT give Haze a perfect score, they gave it a 34/40

Lykon5256d ago

This must be the PS3 version, because it's soooo ugly.

Superior 360 versioooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn confirmed! :D

(From a Final Fantasy Article made it like 3 months agos)

People that disagree and without a reply at just as him... merely hypocrites. People than disagree with this FACT... are on denial or a total delusional.

Now for a great finale, my motto of the day:

I'll play the superior 360 versioooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn with better grafix and exclusive DLC!

Stop crying droids :D

chrisulloa5256d ago

Lol, any fan of Final Fantasy doesn't care about multiple discs. Hell, fans of RPGs in general could care less. Some of the greatest RPG's today have multiple discs.

Aquarius5256d ago

I really, really can't imagine any xbox fan jumping up and down on FFXIII's release date anticitipating the game's arrival. That has never crossed my mind.

J@D5256d ago

Cuz u r a smart person, not like others... >.>

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972129d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus129d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda127d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B127d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981127d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot127d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda126d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot126d ago

Elda

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy126d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay127d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12129d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay127d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB127d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
