Arcade Essentials from Nordcurrent for the Wii is a modern take on the genre of old school arcade game. Contained within Arcade Essentials are five different titles that include Interceptor, Terra Conquerer, Color Cells, Troops Attack, and Hexagonum.
Arcade Essentials is a good idea that deserves better execution. None of the five games in this retro-ish collection measure up to their arcade inspirations, which is a shame. Granted, there’s a reason why Galaga has endured in peoples collective gamer memories for almost 30 years – it’s damn near perfectly tuned – but to fall so short on a copy job is too bad.
