huh, so this is the proof that micro paid Square not to release a playable demo, oh so Square has never made promises only later to drop the ball?, hell so sony, micro, and plenty of devs this gen have not pushed back plans or altered plans or outright done a 180 on promises made a year in advance? This guy is saying things that many people have been thinking for a long time.

Microsoft's business practice have always been subject, they don't compete they try to take over every area of business they see fit to get into. I see them stuffing cash in every person or companies pocket that they think can be bought. There is plenty of evidence that proves this.

Most of this money they are throwing around is coming from the consumer paying for Xbox live, not to mention the money they get from advertising. We are subsidizing Microsoft's buying up everything they can, and Xbox live should be free, . If you buy a game that is an online game you should not have to pay an additional fee to play it, and without paying the yearly fee you cannot play any of the Xbox 360 games online.

A shoddy console design, online service you pay for that is only sightly better than what you get free with the PS3, a community full of lunatics (not saying all are), only two first party games that are system sellers, and in Xbox fanboys minds everything else developed is competing with those two franchises(Halo, And Gears Of War), give me a break, they are good games but they are far from being the be all end all of games.

I own a Xbox 360 and I loved it when I first bought it, then the system failures came along and then there constant reliance on buying exclusivity to games that are linked to other systems rather than concentrating on making games that would make them stand out rather than being a me too machine. I was put off by the Xbox 360 community from the beginning, get online with a microphone or go to the forums and you see how crazy the Xbox 360 community is. Not to say you don't see similar community behavior on other systems, just not nearly to the extent you do with Xbox 360.

We don't know this, and whilst we can all assume the worst, the reality is that Square is a company in trouble and its going to do whatever it can to make more money. Making sure its games are on the dominant next gen console of the US market is simply business, and doesn't need a fat cheque from Microsoft. In fact I'm surprised we are yet to hear about a Wii version, in light of the DS games which have the same motivation of money.

I think the bigger issue is not MS, but Square. Square is the one breaking promises and I'm as pissed as the next guy. But blaming MS is just a cop out and easy way to get hits from a ravenous audience.

As I understand it the game is being developed on PC and will then be transferred to both formats, so the issue is Square's inability to localise and develop as promised... which is nothing new as Europe and the US have always got FF games 6-12 months after the lucky Japanese.

I'm not angry at the great games, and I own all the games you mentioned, but Bioshock and Mass Affect did not move consoles when they were release, and I believe my comment was on how many system exclusive actually increased sales of the Xbox 360.

They do have a shoddy console, that tends to break quit often, I have had two replaced.

They do charge for online play that no one else charges for and they are using that money to try and get control of the gaming market.

Do you know why the PS2 got Grand Theft Auto, because it was offered to Microsoft first and they did not want it because it was too controversial, it wasn't on PS2 because they bought exclusivity.

They are buying exclusive to games that were linked to the success of the PS2, because they only really had one game that panned out on the Xbox (Halo).

Something is wrong when Square has yet to release a single game for the PS3 and have already released three for the Xbox 360. Some of that being Squares doing and much of that has to do with Microsoft's Money. PS1 and PS2 made huge amounts of money for Square and their treating Sony like a step child. you can't say its because of difficulty developing on the PS3, because the games they have released on the Xbox 360 are loaded with bugs and technical issues. you can't say its install base because the place where those games sell best is japan and the Xbox 360 is not doing that well there.

I don't dislike Microsoft or the Xbox 360 for its games, I dislike Microsoft for there business practices.

FFXIII will flop on the 360, and all third party developers will see the error in their ways and realize dealing with MS is a waste of time. Then they will swear an oath in blood to exclusively support Playstation consoles. Sony will make them all bow and declare them the king. MS will be cruched, and will have to close their doors on the 360. All 360 exclusive games will be moved to a PS console, but only if the people on N4g agree to them.

Games will use the full 50 Gb's of the blu-ray disc, and will take 1 year to complete. New games will be priced at $20. HOME will be so great that people never want to leave their homes again. Nintendo will be forced to drop the Wii and DS and make games exclusively for the PS consoles. Sony will be declared the unrivaled king of gaming and no other console will ever be released unless it is a PS console. Sony will provide us with the greatest games ever created. There will be a national holiday on the day the first PS console launched. The PS 1 will be in history books in school.

No one is entitled to anything. If Sony wants to throw a fit about this, they need to be the ones breaking out the checkbook and defending the franchises. they are porting the 360 version while they're doing the localization for both. They are going to be two completely separate teams (and they'd be two completely separate teams without porting it to the 360 anyways). One works on translation, while one works on programming.

Pretty much in the time it would take them to create and localize the game for the PS3, they are going to create an localize the game for the PS3 and 360, because they are using their resources to their fullest.

Square have never began translation of a Final Fantasy game prior to the Japanese release. They did not do this with Final Fantasy 1-12, so why think this will be different?

Surely you've seen the trailers for FF XII, Japanese audio, with English subtitles. Subtitles that are clearly placeholders for when they begin a full translation.

I'd also like to point out that prior to Infinite Undiscovery. No Japanese RPG regardless of developer or platform, has ever had a simultaneous world-wide release.

You should thank Microsoft in this case. It will mean Final Fantasy XIII will reach the West in a far more timely manner.

Maybe it is me but I don't ever remember there ever being plans for a US version of the Demo. I am pretty sure it was always planned to be Japanese only.

Now I share the same opinions I am sick and tired of MS just buying every game instead of trying to make their own that really gets me. I also share the fear that the PS3 version may suffer in some way because of the Xbox version however after hearing the words of Kitase-san It may be that they are indeed taking full advantage of the PS3 and the Xbox version of the game will be severely gimped because of it's lack of space and power.

FFVII had a demo. It took place close to the beginning of the game and let you use a few abilities that you normally wouldn't have at the beginning. It didn't have any of the story in it. The demo is really just to show people how the battle system works.

Just because SquareEnix hasn't said anything about a U.S. and European demo for FFXIII, all of a sudden it's Microsoft's fault? I'm not taking up for Microsoft, but Ummmm... maybe Square just decided that the demo was only going to be for Japan ONLY? As far as I know, Square NEVER even said anything about a Western release of the demo.

If Square took the time to localize the FFXIII demo for EVERY region it could possibly take away from FFXIII development. JRPG's usually take several months before they are even released in the European region, so obviously localizing the FFXIII demo isn't as quick and easy as it may seem.

Square should focus on finishing the game first and getting the game out in Japan, then releasing a demo for the U.S./European regions sometime closer to the Western release of the game in 2010. There is no need for them to interrupt their development schedule by localizing a demo for U.S. and E.U. regions right in the middle of development, because if that happens the official release of FFXIII for U.S. and Europe could get pushed back even more, and no one wants that.

I already know that because of M$ that FF13 will be shorter and they will have to cut out a lot of things (it's funny because they say no DLC but I bet they will lie as usual and DLC will be put out so they can try and charge you what you would've got but for free. Wow Square has flipped their lids now if there is no American release of the FF13 demo with the blu ray of Advent Children I know alot of people who would have bought the blu ray just for the demo. Square is going to loose out on alot of sales with the Blu ray version of Advent children. I own the dvd and i was planning on picking up the blu ray just for the demo. Since when did Final Fantasy X have that FF "Feeling". Final Fantasy X was the beginning of the downfall of square. Every old gamer knows this. If you grew up with FFX then i suppose it would be different for you, but Tidus and the Cast were NOT very interesting at all. Auron was the most interesting and he had a marginal story at best.

The Villians were just heinous and many accounts. "Seymour" come on lets be real, since when a dude named "Seymour" a super villian, oh and the main boss entitled....."SIN" -_- Not that i'm arguing sin isnt a problem in the world, but naming a boss SIN? and he fit into the game how exactly? Attacking the world every X years? lol.

FFX was the start of Bland character design and Mainstream direction. Nothing edgy, nothing shocking, nothing interesting. Then they further watered down the franchise with FFXII. Some will hate on the battle system, but I found it very likable. The characters and uniqueness of them were, however, HORRIBLE. The least interesting Story with (in my opinion) the cleanest and least repetitive fighting system.

You want lowest common denominator, look no further then ID software talking about having to scale back RAGE due to the 360's limitations, or Terminal Reality's comments that they could have twice as much going on on-screen in the new Ghostbusters games if it weren't for the fact that they had to worry about porting it to the 360 afterwards.

my concern with ffxiii and versus fxiii is Wada/Squares interest in becoming more western like to be accepted more in the u.s. market.

not sure if they have been paying attention or not but many of us in america have loved japanese games as they are. if we wanted a more western like game we would buy one of those western games.

i'm concerned that tried and true jrpg gameplay will be lost to more action oriented gameplay.

i love valkyria chronicles and cant wait for WKC to make it to the states but after all the jrpg games i've played on the 360. I'm actually more excited about blue dragon 2 and lost odyssey 2 than ffxiii. dont get me wrong i'm excited about ffxii, but with blue dragon and lost odyssey i know what i'm getting, good ole jrpp with some good current gen upgrades, at a slow gradual pace. with ffxii, well, square has not delivered anything this generation that puts much faith into their ultimate goals.

Look. Will everyone get off MS back over this one. We don't know the full story and MS buying the rights for equality ouside of Japan makes sense for MS so WHY shouldn't they do that?

EDIT: MS also wanted to slow sales of PS3 in Japan and this did that til now but SE have made blunder after blunder with Eidos being the effin cherry. The pressure on whatlooks like a faitly average FF13 is immense. Failure could send SE under-I really believe thatas they're spreading themselves very thin right now chasing things that aren't working for them.
If only they'd put out something as interesting for people as TWEWY was on DS(but for Wii/PS360)or Dissidia/Crisis Core for PSP was the pressure would not be so overpowering. Their pusuot of "western" success in a "western" style could be their doom.

You know everyone needs to get off of Microsoft's back. Everyone says that Microsoft is such an evil company and they shell out unreliable products. I do agree that they should have tested the console a lot better, but you know what, even with the major money they lost due to lawsuits, they still manage to drop the console price a $100 dollars over the years. Sony on the other hand has not. All of you are not marketing experts, Microsoft in the past has always come out on top in marketing their stuff, weather it be demos, games, or anything else for that matter. That is what Microsoft is, a marketing machine. That is why they have so much money, to convince publishers to make a game for them. Sony cant keep their publishers and lost a lot of major exclusives, such as FF13 and Tekken 6. All of you who are crying about not getting your demo should shut up, you should be thankful that Microsoft paid the money to even get that game to their console.

this article is realy subjective a LOOT. I wasnt pleased when I heard that FFXIII went multiplatform , and I too have a lot expectations from this game. It worries me because FFXIII is sucha huge project it will have some flops because xbox version. But guys you all didnt read enough about the game itself. main director said that the game is first to be developed for PS3 and after localization and spreding the game on PS3 they ll start working on the xbox version. they are not making it right now during the main process. I was sceptic about this too, but look at the facts, the famitsu in japan had recived the demo for test and they said the game is superb, no loading times (it only proves they are working on ps3 version first), fast gameplay with no slowdowns. And if you look the FF13 graphic, and all that with no slowdowns... I think this is a proof that sais the project qualitiy will be on top. I personally think that story and characters will be great in this one. FF12 played a LOT with numerous strange and unfamiliar concepts and they werent adopted by the fans. but again if you look objectively . the game WAS on the HIGHEST possible production, and graphic level.(for ps2 ofcorse). I only say NO NEED TO WORRY. FFXIII staff has learned lesson on FF12 missouts, they took only the good aspect of 12 and returned on the basis of the FF reinovating them. I think this one will be awesome game. I just hope that I managed to remove all the doupts in hearts of these players, if I didnt wait for the game and youll see.
