Square Enix talks FF Versus XIII PS3 exclusivity

Following the shocking news of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, Square Enix has taken the opportunity to address its plans in regards to keeping Final Fantasy Versus XIII exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

In an interview with Square Enix Executive Shinji Hashimoto, it was revealed that not only will the game remain a PS3 exclusive, but game director Tetsuya Nomura (Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII) is developing another game outside of Versus called "One Goal Spirit".

How about we just stop blaming all third party developers at least untill the install base are about even or the developement cost gets alot cheaper. For now 3rd party exclusives will be few and a far between and it's going to start coming down to 1st party support. I think Sony already has good third party support with mgs4 and versus but if they had a higher install base they probably wouldn't of lost so many. So it's time that we realize that third part support is up in the air.

Im a 360 owner and since they announced FF13 for 360 I cant care less for Versus :

-first of all we werent even supposed to be seeing a FF game on 360.

-now that the Versus team has moved on to the FF13 project when on planet earth will Versus come out ?They still have to start the 360 version of FF13.

-The main FF agem is FF13 and not FF versus.

PS3 can keep Versus but if it ever comes to 360 its all the better for 360 gamers.

I love the reason Square-Enix gave for making FF13 on the 360 aswell. Did they choose to develop FF13 on the 360 because maybe the 360 has some extra power to make FF13 a better game? I was just told by someone in the industry and Microsoft and Square Enix considered working together (after boat loads of money) on remaking FF VII exclusive for the Xbox 360.

Oh course, the plans fell through though. But think about how bad that would have been.

Come on guys, FFXIII will be released in late 2009 AT THE EARLIEST. It's not going to make an impact on the console war, the only people saying "oh now I've no reason to get a PS3" are the fanboys, they weren't going to get a PS3 anyway. This just gives them an excuse for their fanboyism. The PS3 lineup for the coming year is _just as strong_ as it always was. What's more, apart from the FFXIII announcement, Microsoft's E3 was pretty weak. Which major new games have they announced? Lips? Not exactly a "hardcore" game. If the best thing they have going for them is an announced multi-plat that's more than a year away, even if it _was_ a huge game for PS3, it's not overly impressive.

What they have done is change the mood from "OMG year of teh PS3" to "oh look another one bites the dust PS3 is doomed", when actually NOTHING changes this year AT ALL. We'll wait to see if new games are announced, if not, it's an epic fail from Sony.

Wake up. Sony has very very strong First party games and studios working on games. I would play God of War III anyday over any FF game. We have Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Team ICO, SOCOM, Infamous, GT5, the list goes on and these game really will never be on a Xbox unless Sony decides to get out of the console business which I really doubt will happen anytime soon. The news that FF13 going multiplatform did suck, but what's more frustrating is the fact that most of the versus team is working on 13 so they can port the game over to the 360, which means not only has 13 been delayed so SE can simultaneously release it, but so has versus. Both of these games have been potentially delayed unnecessarily by a year or so just because they can release it simultaneously. We could have seen 13 by the end of this year. Oh well...

I've grown tired of the whoring out of the FF series through countless sequels (though I'm still also excited for FF XIII due to its unique take on combat), but versus is something that interests me in a good way. Now I hope at the conference they show gameplay footage of the title, so we can see what this is really all about.

BTW, that "other game outside the FF franchise" could be anything, but I just hope it doesn't take too long to develop; we don't want people forgetting about the good things coming our way, do we?

Predatory Business Practices: Hardware Binding

Microsoft has largely gotten where they are in the IBM-compatible PC world by creating agreements with computer manufacturers to sell their operating system (OS) with the computer. (I will not go in to Apple's role in this). They are staying on the top through this same mechanism. Find a major PC manufacturer: Dell, HP, Gateway 2000, Toshiba, or others and see how many of them will sell you a new PC without some flavour of Windows on it. (Yes, Apple and a minority of others will.) The prevalence of manufacturers who only sell computers with Windows is staggering and, because of this, has come to be known as the "Microsoft Tax." This was the basis for the Windows Refund Day, which met with much resistance from the manufacturers. Indeed, new computers now ship with words to the effect of: "We sell Windows with this computer. If you don't want to use Windows, you can give us the computer back and we'll give you a refund. You cannot get a refund only on the OS." (My Toshiba laptop came with such an agreement.)
The Microsoft Office Suite, along with other Microsoft programs also comes bundled with a great number of new PCs. This is also a large part of the reason that Office is so prevalent now. How many PCs come bundled with Star Office or Corel Word Perfect Office? Check the price lists and compare the prices to MS Office.

The user base of Microsoft software is tremendous. More accurately, it is unparallelled. No software or hardware company on the face of the Earth has as many users as Micrsoft does. This is my (personal) first and foremost reason to begin to dislike and distrust Microsoft. It has unsurpassed power and influence. It could do just about anything it wants in the software world and, due to its monetary influence, in the physical world as well. Does it? So far, we've only discussed how it got its influence. How is it using its power?

Predatory Business Practices: Misuse of User Base

Microsoft uses its power to reinforce its position and gain money. Yes, those are the goals of a business, but are these the goals that a superpower should have? Above, we have seen that Microsoft has unparallelled control within the world. Thus, it is a superpower. Indeed, the case can be made that it is a monopoly in the PC market. How are they using this monstrous advantage? Quelling consumer choice and gaining more money and power. Bundling Internet Exploitable (IE) with Windows was a step. Most casual IE users I know use it because it's a) already there and b) starts the fastest of any browser out there for Windows. Why is it already there? Because it's bundled with Windows. Why does it start so fast? Because it's an "inseperable" part of the operating system (suuure) and the core components and libraries are loaded when you start the computer. [Additionally , (and this really torques me off) IE is required in order to obtain updates to the OS. Security updates as well as fun things such as screen savers and themes. You now really have to at least have IE installed. Another step: Corel brought forth documents showing that Microsoft deliberately threw in incompatabilities in Windows 3.1 in order to keep their product, DR-DOS, from running Windows, thus eliminating it as a threat to their monopoly. ( http://www.drdos.com/fullst... Let us not forget .Net/C-sharp, the not-Java. C-sharp is effectively Java, with some Microsoft-specific "enhancements" thrown in and the platform independence taken out. .Net puts the platform independence back in to a degree, and adds some more features to the Microsoft offering. Glorified, bloated RPCs, anyone?

Predatory Business Practices: Support

Since when can a company get away with providing essentially no tech support with their product? I remember back to the first Gateway 2000 box my family got. We got huge manuals detailing most everything that could be done on the computer (The Windows and MS-DOS books were each in excess of 400-600 pages. Now, you get about 20-50 pages of basically installation instructions.) The online help is of no help, either. That is all of the "This is Your Mouse" variety. (Not quite true for all cases, but close). In order to learn what all you can do with your win.ini file or registry for instance, you have to purchase a miriad of books. Even then, not all details are covered. If something isn't in your online help or brochure-manual, then you must pay to get the privilege of calling tech support more than three times. (for my copy of NT, anyhow). If you have an OEM copy, then watch out! You must contact your vendor. (a vast majority of users.)

Microsoft: It's not Just Software

Contrary to what some people believe, Microsoft does not just produce software. Ever heard of MSN? Hotmail? Microsoft is an ISP and an email provider. How about the Intellimouse or the Natural Keyboard? They produce hardware, too. How about MSNBC? They are into television and cable. Heard about the X-Box? They do console game systems. The list of disparate fields Microsoft is in goes on and on. Microsoft is not just a monopoly, it's a conglomerate as well. (Has anyone checked in on this from a legal standpoint?) Not only that, but even the software produced should be examined more closely. Microsoft produces the drivers many users use, the Operating System (core components e.g. the kernel), the Graphics system (X in unix), the window manager, the browser, on up to applications such as IIS and Office. There is nothing preventing Microsoft from putting in code to give themselves an advantage and competitors a disadvantage at any link along the chain from hardware to applications. This is possibly the scariest to those like me who tend to be lightly paranoid. Unseen APIs or calls to give Microsoft apps a leg up, enhance the performance of their hardware, or surreptitiously monitor the user without the user ever knowing.

I don't care really since it seems the PS3 is getting the edge but I could understand people who were swaying between both systems and wondered if they were going to buy a 360 but got a PS3 for FF. I didn't buy it for that title as I got it for MGS4, Tekken 6, Gran Turismo, Socom, along with other titles that are main stays with the Playstation brand. Nothing the 360 puts out is ever impressive aside from Gears. Sony still has LBP, has enhanced their online mode, has the best next gen game out right now, and you know the 1st party Ip's are still coming. It's still good just weird how FF is going with MS.

SE has always had top of the line CGI. But Going Multi, makes me wonder about how much they really put into FF13. MGS4 was said to be made just for the specs of the ps3, the game is around 50 Gbs in total(its said the cost was around 50M, if not more). FF13 makes me wonder how much the game really cost to make. How much Gbs will it take. How many hours will the game take to complete. Did they sell out to cover to cost of making the game or just being whores?

I will still get FF13 because its the first RPG for my PS3.

SE said that they are currently developing the game using PC technology (Crystal Tools). Does this mean they won’t be using the Cell+RSX processing capabilities to enhance the game in any way?
Will it only use 1 SPU like most multi-platform games do?
Or are they using PC technology just to develop the X360 version of the game?

Well...the PS3 already has FFXIII Versus that's already confirmed to be PS3 Exclusive.
The other 2 exclusives I'm talking about is One Spirit and Kingdom Hearts 3.
360 has the Last Remant and Star Ocean 4 and those are timed exclusives so the PS3 will be getting those games in the future.
There's also talk of Infinite Discovery coming to the PS3 too.

Some people say that Sony lacks RPGs i still think that's bull if you go to gamespot and look up PS3 Exclusive RPGs they give you a big list of games coming out to the PS3.
