Microsoft and THQ Don't Understand the Word "Free"

Loot Ninja writes:

"While browsing the Xbox Live Marketplace today, I came upon a new item for UFC 2009 Undisputed which offers two new fighters, Ryan Bader and Efrain Escudero. What struck me as odd is the description accompanying the DLC. As you can see in the above picture, this item costs 320 Microsoft Points. However, the description states "Download these free roster additions…" Did I miss something here?"

The sad thing is that these were probably already on the disc.. doesn't the PS3 version have this DLC?

drunkpandas5343d ago

These are actually the fighters that were included as pre-order bonuses at GameStop.

greyishfox5343d ago

Pre-order bonus should not be labelled as "Free". That misleads to think Free for everyone. I hate when stuff is hidden in the fine print.

Tinted Eyes5343d ago

M$ wants your cash, its simple.

DelbertGrady5343d ago

Hmmm. Isn't it normal for most companies to look for profit? A company that didn't care about profit wouldn't last long.

HolyOrangeCows5342d ago

''Download these free roster additions''
Only 320 points!

FamilyGuy5342d ago

Whether you pre-ordered or not you still payed for the game. The people who pre-ordered didn't pay any extra for the content so why should you?

The bonuses that you get for pre-ordering should either be exclusive to those that pre-ordered or made free some time later on. No one should have to pay if the first set didn't. I do ont like this train of thought they seem to be in.

Does anyone know of any other times when a pre-order download-able bonus became purchase-able content later on? If it was something physical that's fine but digital content? How sad.

WOW! One head is saying one thing, the big head of Microsoft says another! RAIN DOWN THOSE BANANA POINTS!

outlawlife5343d ago (Edited 5343d ago )

they are the fighters from the gamestop preorder bonus, they just never updated the description

so yes author, you did miss something, the art of being informed

drunkpandas5343d ago

As I stated in a comment above, I, the author, knew they were preorder bonuses. That does not change the fact that these are currently labeled as both 320 Microsoft Points and FREE on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

outlawlife5343d ago

no it just shows that you are making a big deal of nothing

it is a mislabel, a description that hasn't been updated

rational people see it as that but you are trying to make some big to do out of it

browse the marketplace, there are typos, mislabels, wrong descriptions scattered throughout, write an article about something that matters instead of just writing something to pull hits

DelbertGrady5343d ago (Edited 5343d ago )

What does the description say on PSN?

kapedkrusader5343d ago

...don't be surprised to see MS fanboys justify this. And I'm not saying anyone that has a 360 is a fanboy, just those who can justify this, RROD, E74, charging to play online, needing paid subcription for things that are already free like Twitter and Facebook, etc., etc.

Jecht5342d ago

actually, it is the responsibility of the devs and microsoft to make it clear in every possible way that it is either free or costs 320 points, not both. someone could make the claim that the product's pricing is misleading and get the content for free because they could have initially been drawn to the content because they THOUGHT it was free. these kinds of typos can easily be used as legal loopholes if necessary.

it's just like in a grocery store. if an item is advertised at a specific price in either a flyer, or the sticker price, and yet is rung up to being more than what is advertised before taxes, the customer is entitled to having that item for free as long as the difference is under $10.

in effect, microsoft and THQ made a boo boo that smart people can capitalize on. but then again, who'd want too for just two fighters?

greyishfox5342d ago

@outlawlife - False or misleading advertising is illegal. If you are selling products you must represent them accurately. In retail stores (brick & mortar) if you mislabel a price the customer receives the item at the lower price.

HDgamer5342d ago

PSN offers them for free but MS doesn't want you to have that which makes sense. You see why their system are so closed and that UT3 is one of the reasons why it didn't go so well with MS. Or even the idea of LBP for the 360. One part of free means they gotta charge you.

Nastrious0075343d ago

The sad thing is these are already on the UFC disc...THQ just wants you to pay to unlock them...or is it Microsoft that wants you too pay? Hmmmmmmmm.

drunkpandas5343d ago

Since it's 27.26MB for the download, I'm not sure if the new characters actually are on the disc?

fiercescuba5343d ago

It wouldnt kill people to not charge for everything. Maybe I would pay for Fedor or Bob Sapp or even Kimbo's dumbass. Not these guys.

BX815343d ago

Fedor is lame as hell. Let's sign with a organization with a bunch of half skilled heavy weights. I can't stand Brock, but Brock would tear him a new one. As well as mir, Nog, couture, carwin... Just to name a few.

topdawg1225342d ago

Fedor is the best in the world, period, he'd f*ck all those dudes up.

pippoppow5342d ago

Fedor is a momster who has one loss due to a disqualification. The man is an amazing fighter. He is the baddest man in the sport who would beat the juiced up Brock with a sub. Would love to see him sign with the UFC before he gets too old to put it to those guys.

Five Underrated Games That Should Have Gotten More Love

MouseEatsCat writes:

"Game development is a slow, sluggish process. But when a game is made, most of the time it’s made with love and care and a lot of effort. So it’s not nice to see good games go by almost unnoticed. I’ve decided to compile a list of the five best fairly recent underrated games that went unnoticed when released."

I did not/ do not understand why so many people liked blur i thought it was not very good as for the others i cant say anything. though i was hoping MAG would of been on the list was playing it last night nice to see there is still a community playing the game after so long and despite its lack of reception!

Kurt Russell4089d ago

I loved blur. It had loads to do on the single player, and a good online system. The courses were varied with locations a little different to most racers. Also to top it all off it was very pretty with laser beams and disco light streaks chasing after people... That and it allowed me to drive a rat look beetle :)

I hope that helps you to understand at least why some people may have liked it.

OOG4089d ago

agreed blur was awesome

EbeneezerGoode4089d ago

Agreed. Blur was awful. Truly a terrible game. If was nowhere near the developer's previous efforts on quality nor gameplay.

If anything BLUR was over-rated. Big Time. It was really messy looking, and totally non-fun to play.

Hicken4089d ago

I had a VERY different opinion of Blur. I thought it was an excellent game. Had lots of fun, and wouldn't mind a sequel later this gen or next.

FaSCoRP4089d ago

Blur was good. The point is it was hard, some people does not have the guts, patience or skill to keep up. It was a Bizarre game, you have to be skilled

EbeneezerGoode4088d ago

Really? So that's why I absolutely LOVED PGR3 is it? Blur was nowhere near the class of PGR3 and that is why it failed for me. The cars felt weird, the tracks looked cartoony, the over bright neon mess of pick ups were ill considered and immersion ruining. It was TOO arcade for it's own good.

FaSCoRP4087d ago

Well but Blur never tried to be a Racing Sim, it was like a Mario Kart with a nice graphic engine a more "not so kart" handling.

EbeneezerGoode4087d ago

well maybe it SHOULD have tried to be more, it's poor reception showed it didn't please many people but I'm happy if you got fun out of it. I believe they could have done a lot better based on their past games.

I hope EA does not get the exclusive license renewal for Madden.

Dark_Overlord4333d ago

EA needs to be up in court on anti competitive charges, this being another in a long line of sh*t they pull. The worst though is the crap they pull with football, I mean making sure no one else can make a deal with the clubs is complete BS.
