I never got this bit about it being a below-average platformer. Haven't played LBP2 yet, but at least for LBP1, the story mode was fantastic - in fact the story levels were far better than most community levels, and it was the community levels that were responsible for the high review scores. IMHO it easily stands up to Mario and whatever other good platformers there are out (TBH there aren't many platformers out at all)
It is clearly a bug. GT5 gives void laps for other things like crashing into barriers. In real life drivers get disqualified for taking such a line. There should be a penalty.

Killzone 2 also had the "best time" stat. It takes the quickest time you got through any particular section, and then sums up the best times. So it's not even your best time through the game, it's faster than that.
FPS games' lengths vary MASSIVELY with the skill of the player. It's not about rushing - if you don't die at all, you spend 1/2 of the time in the game as someone who dies at every checkpoint. Personally I think it took me over 12 hour...
I would agree that "it is obviously a GOOD game but not a FANTASTIC one," or rather I would say "it is obviously a GREAT game but not a FANTASTIC one." But EDGE bias is clear to be seen. It is not surprising to me that EDGE ranks among the lowest scores for the game.
Rationalisations come afterwards. The fact is, Edge are consistently biased against PS3 games. The reason for this is not that PS3 games are particularly lacking in any one aspect, the reason is simply that they are biased and that's that. They go about their PS3 reviews from a different standpoint.
Other reviewers take ALL facts about a game into consideration, especially when you average out the scores. If the game were too generic, it wouldn't be getting 87 on meta...

No dazreah, Edge score PS3 games consistently below the metascore. One would expect a magazine's opinions to vary around the metascore - some games they like more, some less. But with Edge, PS3 games are I think 1.2 marks below the metascore on average. This 7/10 falls perfectly in line with that (given they can only give whole marks). Now you may think that they are harsh on ALL games - not so. 360 games are not scored nearly so low....
I won't be playing this game for another 6 weeks, but I can't wait. So impatient, lol.
It's sheer volume. There's not really anything wrong with the netcode - it just can't handle such volume of traffic. That's why the beta worked fine and didn't bring up many issues. I can see it getting a lot better in time even if Mm don't do anything to sort it out. And I'm sure they will anyway.

That is what I was talking about... things like this would be the only thing to sway the population to having more men... the other factors I mentioned should mean there are more women...
TBH I think it's going to look like a standard console game. It's no Killzone 3 or Uncharted 3. A city environment with static, flat buildings for a backdrop is naturally going to be a lot less demanding than the environments we saw in the original Crysis.

Is that right? I know that as far as birth rates go, you have about a 50.5% chance of having a girl and 49.5% chance of having a boy. Women also have longer life expectancy. So if what you say is true, it must be because of things like the one child policy china had and the desire to have a boy, meaning there are only more men because little girls have been left to die on the street....

Actually the GPU will work with compressed textures probably. It needs to - it only has 256MB of video memory. Even taking into account many different areas you can't make 256MB turn into 30GB.

It's nothing to do with them doing ANYTHING or sorting ANYTHING out.
It's simply a matter of volume of people trying to get at the servers. It's very difficult to manage that many connections all at once.
Once the number of people playing goes down the servers will be able to cope. No magic fix. Sure they will try to do something but the main problem is volume of traffic. There's no point in buying extra servers just for the 1st week of heavy ...

Valve must make a sh*t ton of money out of Steam though, now that they've basically cornered the market. There's not really any room for competition when the games you buy are the same and Steam is there and it's convenient. Much like iTunes.

Why not just PSN? I don't think PS+ is worth it. It's great value for what you get - all the free games and such - but those are games that I wouldn't normally buy for the most part.
Yeah but you know Square Enix have their full attention focused on FFXIII-2. That has a release date, unlike Versus. Let's face it, being a PS3 exclusive Versus is unlikely to make as much money as a multiplatform release. SE don't care about quality games they just follow the money. That's exactly why we're seeing a cheap cash-in sequel to FFXIII in the first place.
You may as well say, "HAHA 5 years and the 360 still hasn't caught up to the PS2" - because it hasn't. But that's a little unfair, isn't it? Because the PS2 released years before the 360. Now a straight comparison of the first X years of sales is not entirely fair either (because of changing market conditions), but it's a hell of a lot fairer than simply comparing install base.
