3D uses extra resources. At least it's still in pre-alpha. They should be able to notch it upto 60fps if in 2D that would be bloody amazing.
It's not got anything to do with affordability. Everyone knows $15 a month a nothing let alone $5. It's the morality of paying for these intangible service where it can easily be free elsewhere.
When a corporate company starts charging a penny everytime turn our consoles/PCs on, you'd be all over and defendoing the hell out of it saying "oh it's only a penny a day not much!".....Of coursse not much it's not right since it's all greed.
