A lot of you have trouble with reading comprehension. He is not saying the PS3 will overtake the 360. All he said was that by April next year, he expects the PS3 to be somewhat over where the 360 is RIGHT NOW. He goes on to say that Eidos will hold back on its big PS3 releases until that time comes. He did not say anything about how many installed 360 units he thinks there will be by April 2007.

And just to give you kids some context, this comment is probably a response to Eido...

Read behind the lines. Sony won't come down hard on Jaffe because it's afraid that if they alienate him, he'll defect to its competitors. Sony will put up with this loose cannon only for as long as he puts out badly needed hits for its console. Once his well runs dry, watch out.

Besides, a lot of Sony people probably agree with what he's saying, whether they care to admit it or not.

Who cares which system is easier to work on? Most developers that can will choose to work with the system that sells their games best, even if it forces them to type code with their butt cheeks.

On another note, I don't think any captive developer would be stupid enough to publicly bad mouth the mother ship. We shouldn't expect these guys, or Bungie, Lionhead, Insomniac, Polyphony, etc. to ever go on record with something like "yes, this pizza box is a b**ch to code for, b...

The article makes some good points but tosses a lot of crap into the mix. For example, the author quotes from Kotaku as if it was made by one of the bloggers, when it was actually from a mere commenter named "br549." Guess what the "br" stands for. Duh. Why pick that one from among dozens of other comments on the same article? For all we know, he could be br549.

If the PS3 trojan horse strategy enables Sony to win the format war, will it have been worth the damage inflicted on its game console business?

If Bioshock rocks so hard it becomes a system seller or defines the 360 gaming experience, you can bet MS will open the money faucet and spend whatever it takes to either keep it exclusive forever or prevent it from coming to the PS3 until it's so old nobody would care anymore.

Personally, I think it'll be great, but not that great. MS will not find it worthwhile to invest in further exclusivity, and the game will eventually show up on the PS3 after MS has gotten enough mileage...

The price of the Elite will come down. Exactly how much depends on both the cost savings achieved by the shift to 65 nanometer chips, and on the size of the PS3 price cut that everybody knows is coming.

Now is not a good time to buy either a 360 Elite or a PS3. Summer is traditionally a slow period anyway. I believe MS is really setting the Elite up for the next big holiday shopping period. Watch out for the the IPTV functionality, more downloadable video content, new promoti...

Still not low enough for a lot of folks. What I'd be interested in seeing is whether MS will match the price cut step-for-step. If the premium goes below $300 and the core below $200, we may be in impulse-buy territory.

Before this all gets out of hand, Kotaku just received confirmation from 2K that Bioshock is 360/PC exclusive -

Please check that out before posting anything.

At worst, it takes another bullet point away from the competition. At best, it could actually be fun.

I will buy one eventually, and I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing. You don't have to be hardcore to know it will eventually get marked down.

Yup. 80 is a deceptive figure. I enjoyed my wii a lot while it was fun, but 95% of that came from less than a handful of games. It's been weeks since I've had any fun on the wii, and I don't see anything coming soon that will change things much. Paper Mario isn't really my kind of thing, but I feel compelled to pick it up anyway just to have something new to play on the wii.

Motion sensing isn't integral to the console. It's a feature of a peripheral - the controler. MS can put out a new controler without revising the 360's hardware. They could even bundle it with whatever game justifies creating such a controller, much like the guitar for Guitar Hero.

I'm with MS on this one. It's not yet clear whether motion sensing will mature into a standard gaming interface alongside the thumbstick and the d-pad, or if it will fizzle out like just another fad....

Which one of the three would you swap dirty jokes with?

6261d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Instead of this, wouldn't it have made a better April fools' joke if someone put out something that said MGS4 exclusivity was re-confirmed?

Wouldn't the VGA-to-component or VGA-to-VGA 1080p output on the 360 make for a handy way to get around HDMI's DRM once the image constraint token is activated? I'm too lazy to read up, so if somebody could just tell me or link me that would be great.

Sony may actually be sacrificing its game console business in the short-term in order to establish blu-ray as the new industry standard. I mean, on purpose. I still can't understand why MS joined the HD-DVD consortium. Otherwise they could have royally screwed the PS3 by coming out with an HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo player attachment for the 360. How much ass would that have kicked?

Now is the worst time for leaking news about PS3 hardware upgrades. Sony needs Europeans to buy its consoles now. It would be dumb to give these folks any reason to hold back and wait for a better version that may be coming shortly.

6266d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Sony desperately needed the European launch to go well, and I'm glad it did. These are the kinds of figures you ring up when there are enough consoles in stock at launch for everybody that wants one. But these are the people that would have purchased a PS3 no matter what Sony did with it. There should be at least a million of those throughout Europe, right?

6266d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I am relieved that Sony's European launch was not the disaster that the initial anecdotal evidence suggested. A real console war between evenly matched competitors can only be a good thing for gamers.
