Also Phil Spencer: “We don’t need exclusives.”
Maybe the second good thing to come out of 2020.
Games sell so more copies now than they did in the 80s and 90s that it more than makes up for the cost of development. This isn’t about survival of the industry. It’s purely for profit.
Exactly. A higher starting price means I’ll wait longer for a decent discounted price.
Will you really pay $70 for games? I won’t. They might get away with this during a new console launch but long term this only works if people are willing to pay more.
Right of the gate you get a free game and two if you pay for PS+. Later in the year you get Ratchet&Clank, GT, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War. The next 12 months are basically amazing for PS5 owners
This means a lot to me because I’m holding out for Black Friday deals on next gen games and BugSnax and Astro will be there for me.
Just being honest, most games aren’t worth full price. That’s why I buy 99% of my games at a discount. Miles Morales is also one of the first games with the $10 next gen up charge. I don’t like it and I don’t plan to pay it. There will be deals eventually.
But when you replace the internal drive, how do you load the firmware? Sony has a process for this and a site to download the firmware.
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games of all time. Once you leave the starting area, you can go anywhere and learn how to take over robot animals at your own pace or not at all. There is no level gating and not one way to fight the robot animals or the humans. And like The Witcher 3, each quest felt fully fleshed out.
A trip to the restaurant or the movies for the family can cost as much as a full AAA game. A few nights in a hotel costs as much as an entire console. And like a lot of people, we haven’t done any of that in the last 8 months.
Titanfall was locked to Xbox One, the losing console. For PS4 players, it was a new IP. The beta foe TItanfall 2 was terrible. Players would go through entire match without a Titan. Graphics weren’t special at the time either. The 4-5 hour campaign was not going to sell a $60 game. I think it really came down to the learning curve. CoD players were already complaining about all of the abilities in CoD that ruined the “boots on the ground” experience. They just weren’t that interested in wall ...
Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Witness. That’s right. Not another giant open world game with stunning visuals and innovative gameplay. One of my favorites is a puzzle game.
Just like when the head writer at Bungie was replaced before the release of Destiny. Remember how that game had a great narrative with zero problems?
I think Sony’s argument for a low end PlayStation this holiday is the $400 all digital edition. If you look at Nintendo Switch sales versus Nintendo 3DS sales, you can see that gamers are willing to pay a lot more for better hardware. Or maybe inflation has finally caught up to gaming hardware.
That goes both ways. Epic wants to free ride on Apple’s ecosystem.
Free-to-play is the future of online multiplayer. A new paid game won’t have the numbers to support matchmaking.
Games that can run on any old platform will continued to overshadow bleeding edge games that can only run on new hardware.
Because Microsoft spent $7.5B.
The price per pound is also the best ever.
