The Nightmare, Max Payne (2001)
When hard-boiled misery-guts Max Payne isn't standing about in the rain monologuing to himself, he's having jarring surrealist nightmares in which he tip-toes across a blood trail while his murdered child cries in the background. In writer Sam Lake's script this was no doubt abundant with figurative symbolism, but as a level in a video game it's an exasperating pain in the arsehole, because if you stray from the trail by even a nanopixel, you fall to your death. Brilliant!

Max payne is awesome, but I really hated that nightmare level. I also hate any level you have to do underwater in almost every game, it's so annoying.

Yeah, I'm glad he mentioned the library level. Seriously, that level still fills me with thoughts of murder. And every darn corridor looks EXACTLY the same, so half the time I was just wandering back and forth trying to figure out where the idiotic floating orb wandered off to.

I totally hate every under water level ever created especially the one where you are Raiden in MGS2 and you have to swim through the underwater bombed out zone with Otacon's little whinny sister.

AND PLAY GOLDENEYE! Still regarded as one of the best console FPSs of all time... yes, up there with Halo... though in my eyes Goldeneye is better than Halo. All FPSs owe a lot of their success to Rare.

The bunker 2 in goldeneye was great as long as you went and cleared the route before letting natalya out of her prison cell.

The waroom wasnt as annoying as the others but after ghillies (best level of the game) anything will come out dull and repetitive

And i loved the challenge of the warehouse mainly because i passed it quickly like in my second try some of my friends hated it beyond recall

The Aftermath was the most horrible stage ever in COD4.

After the Nuclear explosion you spend 5 minutes crawling around till you die. Did i mention thats a chapter? That a waste of good gaming right there. I was so fuking pissed i was ready to throw my controller. They did even have to show that scene.

pshh... yeah it may have been the worst level in the game, but not in the history of gaming... i can think of many others... many that got me to quit playing the game all together, like back in sega where you just start from the beginning after you loose all your lives

One i remember the most was a Taz sega genesis video game I got for my birthday A LONG TIME AGO... and there was a level where a big-ass wall with spikes and screws would come across the screen and kill you if you didnt make it across the entire level in a ridiculously fast pace... it seems like a lot of timed levels seem to be hated

LMAO same could be said of Spawn on PS1 except that had 3 levels repeated like 80 something times. As much of a Spawn fanboy I am, that was probably the most horrible game I've ever played in my life. It's coupled with Men in Black on PS1, and Lawnmower Man on SNES.

Believe it or not I actually liked the Spawn movie. Sure it wasn't GREAT but it actually stuck to the source material closely. He did spend too much time without the mask compared to the comic books and they kinda messed up Malebolgia by throwing out the designs from the people who already did the costumes and makeup for everything else in favor of that crappy ass CG model. The animated series is coming back too, it's going to look different than it used to though. Also it's still been said that the 2nd movie was going to be made, when I just don't know.

Yes, that does appear to be Bucky O'Hare, which I still get to play occasionally when i take my little brother to Chuck E. Cheese's. Also, Casino Nights and Labyrinth are two of my favorite levels!

Actually, I didn't mind "the Library" in H1 that much...on the harder modes, it becomes a run-and-gun fight for survival. But on Normal and Easy...yeah, a pain in the @ss.

However, the Cortana level from Halo 3 would get a vote from me...seriously, that area isn't challenging...it's ANNOYING.

After i typed that post i cut the game on and did the chapter again.
After he Explosion i crawled out the chopper i stoop up and dragged myself to the destroyed playground only to colapse.

It was about 3 minutes tops that was a waste. Im not saying the game was a waste but damn i'd rather it be a cutscene cause i know damn well after a nuclear explosion the should have never got up period. Unless you forgot Nuclear explosion suck all oxygen forward and out of your lungs so death is instant. It was a beautiful background and set design nonetheless but many of us thought somewhere along the lines he would be rescued just cause the showed the aftermath and let you control it (Then again you would'nt get rescued cause that area is quarantined as is a radiation hazard.)
