EA: We Want Dead Space To Be The New Resident Evil

The Resident Evil series was awesome, the early versions were phenomenal. [Capcom] did a good job of growing the franchise to a very large market.

I think it already is I mean personally it won't over-take the classic RE games but for this Gen it has easily been the top horror game for me.

lets just hope when RE gets it's reboot it goes back to it's roots and adds more horror than the last two games.

it doesn't say much about a game if all you would simply want is to be another game
they should want it to be its own thing something that sets it apart

but i believe they just mean audience/sales wise

I think they mean more of the reputation part,
when people hear Resident Evil they know what it is and some remember playing the first game (not everyone is a gamer)

Dead Space has already replaced Resident Evil for me. Except for the great RE2 on original PlayStation, it's matching the classic feel of the old RE games, and has a definitely better atmosphere than RE5.

i think Dead Space is really close to becoming the face of survival horror that RE used to be. It all depends on the next games for both series. Dead Space 2 kinda steered away from the truly frightening game that was the first and RE is an action game now. So, we'll see.

i just wish dead space 2 had more boss fights like the first... i loved that boss fight on the 1st part where you are kinda strafing shooting at a blob thing that spits bomb type things at you.

Dead Space should stick to being Dead Space. It's an excellent survior horror series, but Resident Evil my favorite series eventhough it's more action than horror these days. I just can't connect to Dead Space like I did with the older Resident evil games, maybe because I'm older and Pop out horror can only scare me so many times.

I was a big time fan of the resident evil series since the beginning until re 4, the old school resident evil games was the main reason on why I wanted to get a playstation, and playstation 2. But when I played re 4 the first half was so-so then it quickly became a chore to finish the game as the game went downhill from there imo, needless to say I was very disappointed on what the series had become from that point.

The game(re 4) had some technical improvements in the gameplay department from its predecessors, but what made the series so great in the past had been ripped out from the roots and all that was left was the brand name and some of the main line characters thrown in. In other words capcom made a generic action game with some tweaked gameplay mechanics and fearing that the game would flop tossed in some of the mainline resident evil characters and slapped the resident evil brand name on it to guarantee that it would sell well due to the popularity of the franchise.

And now many people are starting to realize after playing re 5 what I realized after playing half way through re 4. I hate to say this but since re 4 the series has been sharply going down hill. Though there is still some hope that the series may go back in it's prime as the evidence is clearly shown that they are steadily taking the series back to it's roots with releases such as the "chronicles" series and the re 5 spencer mansion dlc for re5(the dlc is also included in re 5 gold edition).

I just hope that they ditch the new age re formula and bring back the old school re formula with improvements. I own all of the re games for the ngc(re 0, re1), ps1, ps2, and ps3 and if capcom does not do something soon concerning the re franchise (for the first time since the beginning) I will stop buying future games in the series. They have 2 more chances with me and if I don't see the franchise going back in the right direction I will call it quits for the franchise.

Im a big fan of the RE series too, but I have to say that RE4 is among my top three. RE5 is bad because it was repetitive and it didn't have any memorable enemies or boss battles. I do wish that they'll go back to their old formula, but I do think that the modern aiming and over-the-shoulder camera is a huge improvement or the classic camera. I tried to use the classic camera when playing the RE5 dcl and it was horrible. I kept thinking to myself "how did I play the original RE games like this?" lol

When I said that resident evil 4 had technical improvements in the game-play department from its predecessors I meant that the over the shoulder camera perspective was a good thing for the franchise, but everything else has to go and/or be trashed.

And like you said about resident evil 5 being repetitive and it didn't have any memorable enemies or boss battles in which that is exactly what I meant on one of the main reasons why resident evil 4 was bad because it did not have any memorable enemies or boss battles or was not even scary in the least in which the old school resident evil games had many a plentiful variety of scary and memorable music, atmosphere, areas, enemies, bosses, and a good story.

If I had to summarize resident evil 4 it would be like babying an initially cold can of carbonated drink, where you take a few sips now and then, and while at first it is ok but then as time goes on each time you take a sip it gets warmer and blander until near the end it falls flat and is so bland and boring that you can barely stomach it, and when you do finish it you wonder why you forced yourself to finish it when the end result is so disappointing.

The plain and simple fact on why I don't like resident evil 4 or from what I have played of resident evil 5 is because resident evil 4 or resident evil 5 are just not resident evil games imo, when you come down to it it is just that plain and simple. They need to bring back the old school resident evil horror and flavor to the series or if this new age resident evil garbage continues I do not see the resident evil/biohazard franchise lasting much longer.
