The Problems With Dead Space 2's PC Version

After a step in the right direction that was Battlefield: Bad Company 2, EA seems to be doing a complete turnaround from all the progress it has made in the PC market recently. Such is the case with the PC release of Dead Space 2.

You only have to pay for that if you get the game used? Right? So, how can this affect you on PC since last I checked, it's near impossible to get a used PC game.

It certainly possible to get used PC games on ebay. They are listed all over.

I don't use PC too much, but with this pass (if it works like Blizzards) then only one account can play online. That means, if I want other family members to play online, I can't without paying a fee for each of them to play online as well.

I just played through it on Steam, it was fantastic and looked great (better than console version). This article is mostly BS. Only complaint I have is DRM.

I mean, FFS, the main complaint of the article is the price - how does that have anything to do with the quality of the game? There are PLENTY of worse games out there priced at 60 dollars during RELEASE WEEK.

Umm The PC version is actually quite good. An improvement over the original.

the first game on pc was shoddy that got no patches for it. yes the graphics are better but not at the expense of constant crashing and game breaking glitches.

Let's hope EA support the sequel better this time.

What was actually wrong with the pc version for Dead Space 1? I have it (from the EA store, not steam or anything, so I don't have to worry about any steam issues), and besides the silly mouse lag issue (which is not really mouse LAG, it's basically the exact copy of the 360/ps3 version so the mouse moves slower like in those games) which is easily fixed if you search online (but it makes it easy, so you have to ramp up the difficulty level to compensate), the game is perfect. It has never crashed, it looks great with 1080p, it runs great (no hiccups or frame rate issues when there's smoke or explosions, or example).

The only issue I can think of is they didn't put enough polish on it to make it a "PC" game as opposed to a console port. But can you blame EA for that? They knew the PC version wouldn't sell well, it was basically for the few die-hard fans would refuse to buy on console, and they can't throw all this money into it when they know they won't make their money back.

Anyway, I can't speak for Dead Space 2, because I don't own it yet (getting it for ps3) but Dead Space 1 on the PC is not nearly as terrible as people claim. True, they didn't provide patches and whatnot, but I didn't see any need to patch the game in the first place. Hopefully they patch the second, so they can fix that mouse issue so people don't have to worry about using a 3rd-party fix.

the thing is EA put the game out for public consumption for the PC gamers, you dont put a game out where you think it wont sell they obviously did, but now they treat the PC version like the twice removed half brother, if they patched the mouse controls and opening the menu when near doors crash, it would have been alright but they dont even acknowledge it and it aint fair on people who paid good money on it.

but besides the point hopefully the new one they have learned from past mistakes and dont take the PC for granted.

First of all, Magicka (the $10 game) is going to sell better, because obviously it's 1/6th of the cost.

Secondly, developers will continue to charge $60 for a game that lasts 10 hours because people are willing to pay for better graphics and special effects. I have never understood why so many people want nothing but great graphics. I'm a firm believer in content.

Maybe you should learn to read the bloody post that you respond to. The article clearly states that Steam tracks games based on revenue. So if Magicka sold 30K copies at $10 each, it means that Dead Space 2 sold FAR fewer copies (if you take into account the revenue).

Vanquish for ps3 and 360: it was MAYBE a 5 hour game through the story. It had GREAT graphics, good ideas, pitiful dialog and story though, but it was a fun game. But $60 for that?

Like you said, they will continue to offer games for that price, if not more, because people will buy them. And if they don't, publishers would rather the development studios go under than lower the price point under 60 (i.e. you should have made a better game that sold more copies). Games like GTA, infamous, etc.: games that have hours of content in them are a great example of games that are worth your investment (if you can call a game at $60 an investment) but there are those other games that have an online component and are worth it for that alone.

Portal was only like 3 hours ... of course it wasn't $60.

The only thing wrong with your logic is you (or someone with your same mindset) will make fun of EA (even though as you said the PC version is completely superior and great) for putting the game at $60 when call of duty or starcraft, etc. are at the same price and people will buy those up without complaint.

I don't understand some people's arguments about one company who does it (i.e. EA) when another (i.e. Activision) can get away with it so easily. CoD is the same rehash every single year, but people will throw down $60 every time without complaint + extra for DLC. Dead Space (and Dead Space 2, I'm assuming, from the great reviews) is a good unique game, but people are complaining about the price ...? What about the 360 and ps3 version, they are $60 too. Is that a problem as well?

And your argument about the multiplayer being crap ... it's new, and there's only maybe 1 other game like it: left 4 dead. Why are you complaining about the multiplayer on a game you obviously haven't even played? And you know when the price hits $20 a LOT later than you're claiming (3 months, not a chance) then there's not going to be many people you can play multiplayer with (the PC online community will die down, consoles, maybe not).

What we have is the best version of a wonderful multiplat game, but I guess that's not good enough. Look at how often console gamers get screwed over, yet they don't complain half as much.

we have millions of hours of free mods, free maps, total conversions, dedicated servers, pixel perfect hd quality rendering, and we expect all of this

so when some mediocre single player game with no mod tools and garbage multi comes along asking $60, we do not buy it, we play bfbc2 on dedicated servers in dx11 instead and wait till it drops to $20

Well on the upside ive already have the game and might as well enjoy it. The mouse lag is pretty much fixed not gonna lie, its better then the 1st, Technical wise on PC. Sucks there wont be any DLC or stuff like that :(

I really enjoyed Dead Space 1 even though it had some issues but it was still an enjoyable experience. @ $60 I'm gonna hold off on Dead Space 2.

EA must be smoking crack to think PC gamers are gonna play Russian roulette with $60 bucks. EA lacks PC support and PC gamers have been burned before by EA and crappy games. Plus many post have said the game is nothing more than a console port with the same problems as the first one.

When it hits the $9.99 mark I might give it a go. I reserve $60 for AAA PC Exclusives or games made specifically for PC gamers ONLY and not console ports.
